Cargo Cult President
American Thinker ^ | Feb. 23 2010 | Randall Hoven

..... He is the Cargo Cult President. At least the real Cargo Cult followers built real things that looked like landing strips to get airplanes loaded with food and supplies to land on them. Obama thinks you get factories to produce things and hospitals to fix people by making speeches -- speeches that are reasonably good imitations of speeches given by real leaders. ........

Searched and didn't see this posted. Rush mentioned it today.

Gotta read the whole article - and then read the Wikipedia link describing Cargo Cults. I found it all quite interesting.

I though Rush did a very good job of explaining the overall social structure, philosophy and precepts…for those that are not sure about the topic, this should help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult

I thought it interesting that Rush had never heard of the Cargo Cults until today.

It’s a famous side-note to WWII history, and has been mentioned in lots of WWII tv documentaries in the last couple of decades.

John Frum doesn’t appear on the Obama team.

I hadn’t heard of them either - at least not that I could remember. Probably WWII in the Pacific gets less attention than WWII in Europe.

The fake runways and air traffic controllers made me think of the fake greek columns at INVESCO field. Not to mention the deity theme as well.

Some of the best footage of cargo cults I’ve seen was in — of all things — the “Chariots of the Gods” documentary. Erich von Däniken had the idea that ancient myths of gods descending to Earth and temples built to worship them were an ancient version of cargo cults involving actual aliens from space, and drew a parallel with modern cargo cults. World War II-era GIs from America would seem to natives of remote Pacific islands about as stunningly super-advanced as aliens from Alpha Centauri would to us. Okay, you don’t have to buy von Däniken, but the people who made the documentary based on his book did come up with some pretty amazing footage of actual cargo cults in operation circa 1970, with things like replicas of airplanes made with sticks (in the hope of luring the real things back by sympathetic magic). In a way, because it was genuine, it was more astonishing than the speculative stuff about aliens.

Not that big of a surprise. Given the choice between reading history or football and golf there’s no doubt as to which he chooses.

Rush’s treatment of this today was masterful. He was spot on.

The left’s entire movement is based on inverting cause and effect.

- They want to replace a system where people are free to achieve with one where everyone is forced to the same results.

- It doesn’t matter whom you trample, the end justifies the means.

- People don’t make the same poor decisions that led them to where they are; if we give them enough handouts they’ll be accomplished individuals!

- Since it’s a good thing when someone creates a better version of something or is able to offer it at a better price, the inverse must be true too! Artificially driving energy prices sky-high so that non-competitive failures are forced on people is therefore equivalent to real innovation.

- Having government put an artificial ceiling on an element necessary to nearly every energy source is a “free market” program since it has the word “trade” in it.

Well, that's a pretty snarling hit on someone who's respected and admired as one of the most intelligent, most articulate spokesmen for conservatism today.

That was really uncalled for.

“someone who’s respected and admired as one of the most intelligent, most articulate spokesmen for conservatism today”

I suppose, if you’re both young and not particularly well read.
