(CNN) - Mitt Romney endorsed Sen. John McCain, one of the former Massachussetts governor's main competitors for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, for re-election to the U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
"Senator McCain's record of service and sacrifice for America is honored by all," Romney said in a statement. "But I believe that it is his core values of courage, faith and honor – forged in battle and confirmed by a lifetime of service to America – that make Senator McCain's leadership in the United States Senate so necessary in these perilous times."
Romney said it is "hard to imagine the United States Senate without John McCain."

I don’t have any idea why she endorsed him and don’t care. He did however pick her to be his running mate and I would think she would feel that since she would not have the attention she is getting if he had not picked her she feels a certain loyalty to him.

Hayworth is against illegal amnesty, isn’t he? And against cap and tax? And hasn’t he said he opposed the bank bailout? Who has the better ACU rating? Isn’t it Hayworth? Why is McShame showing vitriol toward Hayworth when McShame was loathe to criticize the Kenyan marxist during the presidential race? If reelected, how long do you think it will take McShame to “reach across the aisle” to the leftists to push the Dim agenda and poke his finger in the eyes of conservatives yet again?
I’m not an Arizonan, and therefore cannot vote for either candidate, but I feel strongly that McShame has sold out conservatives time and again.
I contributed to Hayworth last week and plan to do so again this week.

I will support J.D.. McCain wanted Amnesty for the illegals he let in with his lax border controls. Romney and Palin have hurt their credibility very badly by endorsing McCain. I think this is where we make our stand to route these progressives out of our party.

I care (about why Sarah Palin endorsed McCain). I’ve been a Sarah Palin supporter and fan for a long time. Most Alaskans are. And I, for one, would sure like to know what the hell she was thinking when she decided to endorse McCain.
The argument that she did it out of loyalty, if true, doesn’t set well with me. The Palin we know stayed true to her principles and led us to believe that she wouldn’t become part of the old-boy’s club, political establishment. She doesn’t “owe” anyone anything, and even if she did, she’s either going to stay true to her conservative roots by endorsing those candidates who best represent her views, or she’ll lose many of her supporters by becoming just another typical politician.
I’m still a Palin fan, but have to admit that if I were to make excuses for her endorsement of McCain (which I did when I first heard) I’d be a hypocrite to now yell about Romney’s endorsement of McCain.

No, the translation is that you are a moron. The CPAC straw poll has a history of being stuffed, and this year it was the Paultards. In 2008, it was the Romneybots. And it is meaningless as a result, as Romney's 'win' in 2008 shows.
I have defended Palin at length on the issue of her not being ready for prime time. While I did think she needed some work, I expressed my thought that she was a sound prospect for the presidential slot.
Now the enduring endorsement that has no name...
Sorry Sarah, you are proving your critics right and there’s not a damned thing I can do about it.
The smell of skunk doesn’t come off so easily, especially after spending months stroking one.
Sarah is not the person I hoped she was. If she can support a man that has at one time or another opposed everything I stand for, then I cannot support her.
I cannot express firmly enough how critical it is for John MeCain to be removed from a position of power within our own party. He will continue to short circuit Conservatism as long as he remains in the Senate, and at this crossroads, that’s an almost certain fatal blow to our nation.
Sarah, if you get this jackass re-elected, he will defeat everything you say you stand for. If you don’t or can’t, or both, realize this, then you’re not the Sarah Palin I longed to support.

The issue with DeMint is that he hasn’t been shy about endorsing people he really wanted, so while his refusal to endorse McCain clearly indicates DeMint doesn’t find McCain a conservative, his refusal to endorse Hayworth would imply DeMint doesn’t think that highly of Hayworth either.
But I am willing to believe DeMint simply doesn’t want to waste an endorsement on an outsider against an incumbent that he can live with in the Senate — no point in burning every bridge.
Of course, if McCain had picked Romney, this thread would be full of attacks on Romney and McCain for playing the quid-pro-quo game.
I like endorsements to be heartfelt, and don’t like when people use them simply to pay back favors.
Of course, I can’t explain why DeMint endorsed Romney for President when others such as McCain were still in the race.
Still, the endorsement I understood the least in 2008 was Tom Coburn endorsing McCain.

As much as I wish I didn’t have to say this, Sarah is being a helpless tool here. MeCain is using her, and she’s allowing him to do it at will. Of course he isn’t heaping praise on her. She is his biggest threat in 2012.
He beat out Romney once, and he thinks he can do it again.
Him getting her endorsement damages her, and his failure to praise her is the doubly whammy.
