California Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) chairman Ryan Sorba generated a media controversy when he was shown at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) denouncing the organizers for inviting a homosexual Republican group, GOProud, into the event as an official sponsor. In "controversial" remarks, Sorba said homosexuality was unnatural and that he welcomed more debate and discussion about the subject from his political adversaries.
But what many people don't realize is that Sorba's "outburst" was provoked by a speaker who preceded him, Alexander McCobin of Students For Liberty (SFL). McCobin went out of his way to use valuable time from the podium to thank the American Conservative Union, the main CPAC organizer, for making the controversial decision to approve GOProud's participation.
David Keene, a lobbyist, is the chairman of the ACU and personally approved GOProud's involvement in CPAC.
Sorba told AIM, "I think CPAC went overboard this year. I don't think he [Keene] should be sitting at the top of CPAC." He noted that CPAC over the last several years has also allowed groups such as the ACLU to have exhibits at the event.
"What's next?," Sorba asked. "Are they going to have Republicans for Obamacare? Republicans for free abortions?"

Seems to me a homosexual conservative is an oxymoron. I am perfectly happy to have them stay in the dem party.
Ping. (yecch)
Whats wrong with intolerance?
“WOW! We have another infiltrator. The Libertarians”
Imagine that. Republicans in favor of small government. We can’t have that, now can we?
I think homosexuals have been around for time immemorial. Only since the 60s has it been “cool” to be gay. Once society accepted it, it became mainstream and more came out as being gay.
I don’t support the homosexual agenda in any way. I think it’s disgusting to teach kids how to have sex in any way; that’s for the parents to impart. What a man or a woman does behind closed doors is their business. I’m not for religiously intolerant ideas such as banning sex toys or breaching the bedroom to make sure there isn’t some Biblical code being broken by two consenting adults.
There aren’t more gays now, they’re just more vocal and visible.
You apparently are not religious, and you denounce "intolerance" of homosexuals, yet in your profile, you list Bill Clinton as "the downfall of morality in this country". Why so judgmental about one of our presidents? Would you feel differently if Clinton were a personal friend of yours?
I am a Christian rightist. I have no problem with the existence of homosexuals. If more were like your friend, the world would be a better place. But you know as well as I that the antagonism between Christians and homosexuals is due to homosexuals repeatedly trying to force their agenda on everyone else. To a Christian, the homosexual lifestyle is sinful. But, so are lots of other lifestyles. However, homosexuals are the only sinners who claim that their 'lifestyle' is not a sin.
I have no problem with sinners in the world, as I am one. But I do not crave acceptance of my sins by the rest of the world. If more homosexuals would behave like your friends, there would be no problem.
Your head would explode if you knew how many homosexuals out there vote the same way you do, watch the same cable news shows you do, post to the same forums you do... homosexuality is something that takes place in the privacy of one’s home. When they take it out in public, I have a problem. Otherwise, I still believe in private property rights.
Shall we get something straight about homosexual bahavir? It is NOT unnatural. It is immoral.
You said:
“I personally could care less because they affect my life in no way. They are the way they are and we should learn to accept it. No sweat off our backs.”
That’s probably what Lot and his family said early on in Sodom.
Checked out the gay agenda in your local public school lately?
If you watch any tv - mostly reality tv - (I know, most of us try not to) - they are becoming more and more open about being able to go either or, that is straight or homosexual - it’s an “experiment” and once they’ve done it, they can’t be ashamed of it, therefore they promote it.
I would rather have a homosexual conservative fighting for me than a religious nut.
“Amen to that.”
There are a lot more religious men (nuts?) fighting for you right now in Afghanistan than gays, trust me.
“Only since the 60s has it been cool to be gay. Once society accepted it, it became mainstream and more came out as being gay.”
From what you post our views are very similar. It’s just this one thing that bothers me. It shouldn’t be “cool” to be gay. Being gay should be seen as like having diabetes. By that, I mean it should be seen as something you’d rather not have, definately not cool, but not something that disqualifies you for most things. (Except maybe living in close quarters in the military.)
The problem is, if being gay is cool, then you encourage those who may have some curiousity, but in the proper environment, wouldn’t act on it.
People like you are the real problem. Homosexuals wouldn’t have a foothold if people like you did not exist. Why not give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens since most of them have conservative values? etc, etc, etc. Have you ever heard of Rome? Honestly, thinking like you make me sick.
Thank you for being sensical, Sans-Culotte. Bill Clinton sullied his marriage, lied to 300 million people about it, and he then reneged and admitted it was wrong. When the American public accepted his apology, they accepted adultery as the norm. Hence my “downfall of morality” comment.
I am a practicing Catholic, and yes, I understand the moral conflict with homosexuality. I am straight, have a wonderful woman who I intend to marry, and I pray for my cousin’s soul every week.
I am not, however, one of these Christians who goes around pushing my beliefs on others. I believe our Founders established freedom of worship for a reason: some didn’t want to, and that’s okay.
I’ve dated plenty of “born-agains” who tell me I’m wrong and that I don’t need to go to confession and I don’t need to do this, that, and the other thing. I have a problem with that. You worship how you wish, I’ll worship how I wish.
There’s no “wrong way” to pray, and if someone says otherwise, they make my point: religious intolerance is a pox on a polite society. When someone starts pushing their Baptism or Episcopalianism or Judaism on me, I have a problem with that.
Some in this thread have dismissed me as a loon simply because I’m okay with my cousin being gay. What would you have me do, slay him?
AMEN!
You want OPEN BORDERS? Go start your OWN country!
I think it depends on your definition of “religious nut”. I consider myself a devoted Bible-believing Christian, so you may think I am a religious nut. I am a conservative because I am a Christian.
Wow... just wow. I can't even conjure a logical response to this.
