Minn. House Holds First Hearing On Gay Marriage

On Monday, the Minnesota House held its first ever hearings into legalizing gay marriage in Minnesota. There are three bills that the House is considering but there will be no votes.

Still, the hearing for the Civil Justice Committee is stirring up a lot of emotion. The bills would recognize gay marriages in Minnesota and from other states.

The bill would eliminate the word marriage in state law and replace it will civil union contract. Gay and lesbian couples told the committee they lead normal lives but opponents called it immoral.

"With tippy cups and car seats and visits to pediatricians and bedtime stories. For people who are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with gay and lesbian families, what we have found over our many years of being parents, that folks hang out with us and find that we're pretty much like everybody else that they know," said same-sex marriage supporter Deborah Talen.

"Same sex unions are not based on complimentarity between a man and a woman," said Catholic priest Father Michael Becker. "They do not cooperate with God and plan for new life. They do not actually achieve a conjugal union. There's no way for one in a homosexual act to give themselves completely and be received simultaneously."

It is uncertain whether there will be any vote at all on gay marriage this year in the Minnesota House or Senate. Some opponents questioned whether social bills are important this year considering all the work that needs to be done on the budget.

come on MN do what the country has done and vote this perverted crap out.

one only has to look at MA to see what the next move is for them after their sham marriage.

can’t get a job unless you support it
have to recognise it if you take a bar exam
teaching to 5 year olds
closing down religious charities like adoption
the list is endless and yet we still have some who say well it’s nothing but a marriage so what it doesn’t affect you.

no it affects everyone as they do not stop there but go in all corners of society

I do not expect “gay marriage” to be a legal institution in the long run, but I do expect to see it advance quite a bit in the next few years.

You’d never know that the country is in the toilet right now when you watch these elected buffoons in action.

Well, MN now has that FREAK Al Franken ‘representing’ them. What did they expect?

I’m curious...is northern MN much like northern WI? I mean, that’s where all the hearty, God-fearing, individualistic, self-reliant, land-lovin’, gun totin’ conservative souls LIVE who obviously can’t get into town to vote in November because they’re already snowed IN until June! (Think ‘Alaska Lite.’)

I can’t WAIT to move there. :)

Depends on what part of northern MN you are talking about.

Duluth, the Iron Range, Oberstar country......liberals.

I’m real familiar with the Bemidji area. Some great conservatives, a couple of Ron Paul blocs and, of course some liberal holdouts waiting for the government to save them....but the gay thang don’t play in Paul Bunyan land....

NorthEAST MN? I’m well aware of them. They cross over into Wisconsin to vote on a regular basis. Even in off-election years, LOL!
