Another reason is that Switzerland has a non-interventionist foreign policy and minds its own business. A worthy model for us in more ways than one.
Belgium had a similiar policy and we see how that worked out. Swiss can afford such a policy because of its geography.

While your statement is true, another reason the Nazis chose not to invade Switzerland is because of the swiss alps. There are only a few passages through and they are easily defended by the citizens. Plus, as you note if they did conquer them, it would be like the U.S.A. A whole bunch of people would take their guns off into the hills and continue the war until you killed all of them. It is better to die a free man than to live on your knees. Israel understands this as well. What’s not understandable is why there are so many liberal jews in America who don’t understand it.
Really neat that they keep their service weapons for posterity and any future fights.

And then there is the story of the German General who talked with the Swiss general.
The German says...”Our army is five times as big as yours! What would stop us from invading!”
The Swiss officer says..”All of our soldiers would fire five shots, then go home!”

I’ve read of people buying surplus Schmidt-Rubin rifles here in the U.S., finding the original owner’s particulars written on a piece of paper concealed under the butt plate, and actually finding the person’s family in Switzerland.

That seemed unnecessarily harsh even by my standards.

Probably because (so far) they haven’t had to deal with suicide bombers where they live and shop in the USA.
