While your statement is true, another reason the Nazis chose not to invade Switzerland is because of the swiss alps. There are only a few passages through and they are easily defended by the citizens. Plus, as you note if they did conquer them, it would be like the U.S.A. A whole bunch of people would take their guns off into the hills and continue the war until you killed all of them. It is better to die a free man than to live on your knees. Israel understands this as well. What’s not understandable is why there are so many liberal jews in America who don’t understand it.

Probably because (so far) they haven’t had to deal with suicide bombers where they live and shop in the USA.

"...another reason the Nazis chose not to invade Switzerland is because of the swiss alps..."

The Nazis (National Socialist Party) planned an invasion: "Operation Christmas Tree".

The Swiss also had some special deals with the Nazis, as I understand it.

A Swiss friend also told me that Hitler said something like this regarding the Swiss:

Wir werden mit dem kleinen Igel viel letzten (We'll deal with that little porcupine last)

There are only a few passages through and they are easily defended by the citizens.

Citizens who have all had military training and were dug into forts that made the Maginot like look like Fort Apache. The biggest difference was that the Swiss forts couldn't be bypassed and they had two years of food and ammo buried in tunnels under the mountains.

Now if you want to be a non-interventionist that is what you have to do. You must turn you citizenship into an army. Turn your borders into walls, and your entire nation into a fortress. Then, and only then, can you not worry about what else is going on in the world. In addition during WWI the Swiss converted all their railroads from steam to electric so they could use local hydro electric power and not have to worry about being cut off from supplies of oil and coal. Finally they were self sufficient in terms of food. The fortified borders and mountain passes meant that they could not be taken by storm and they could out wait any attempt at siege.

In contrast the United Stats has only a small fraction of its population with military training, no border defenses what so ever, and no fortified or hardened bases to fall back on. There are no great stockpiles of food or ammo to support a protracted battle on American soil. In addition, dependent as we are on imported fuel, there is no way for our economy to survive if we were to be cut off from foreign trade. The US is forced to fight its wars overseas, because fighting here is just not a winning option.

Yeah, subs to Gulf of Mexico, and tanks to Moscow and as far north as the Attic Circle, and across the Med into Africa. Yeah, the Alps. That stopped them.

The story goes, at the beginnign of WWII, a German general was sent to ‘negotiate’ with the Swiss. At one point, the General pointed out that the Swiss had half a million men to the Germans 3 million. When ehasked the Swiss offical what they would do if Germany were to invade, the response was, “Each man will fire six rounds and go home.”
