I think that in the interest of maintaining some decorum and just good manners, it should be a rule that every student that gets shot by an instructor at a CCW class should be granted an automatic pass.

Looks like the instructor shot himself in the foot, so to speak.

Mistakes were made.
This is another reason why having multiple instructors is good - they can check each other’s firearms for ammo.
NRA training does have a very strong NO LIVE AMMO IN THE CLASSROOM rule, and it’s pretty obvious why that is.

He forgot to follow the first rule of gun safety.
#1) Always, always, always, always, always, always assume a gun is loaded no matter how unloaded you think it is.

"An instructor teaching a concealed weapons safety class accidentally shot one of his participants in Orlando"
sentence reads funny
To: stainlessbanner
Years ago when I lived on the farm, hubby was teaching me how to load and unload a shotgun with a very very sensitive safety, blew a hold in the back room wall, missed the old furnace by inches, blasted a 2 X 4 behind the wall, and thank God it didn't go thought the bathroom wall. He warned me never to tell anyone about it, I kept that promise until our kids came to visit and had to show them the hole...One of my son's still lived with us at that time, and he was in the shower in the back room. Lucky the gun was not pointed toward the shower...Son emerged from shower with towel wrapped about his waist and said as he passed us..”Guess its time to get an apartment”...20 years later and I still laugh at it...

It’s very simple: all guns are loaded. Keep your goddamn finger out of the trigger guard even if you know with absolute certainty that the gun isn’t loaded. Don’t point the muzzle at anything you don’t want to destroy. If a “certified instructor” doesn’t know the condition of his weapon at all times, or how to retract and lock a slide without contacting the trigger, maybe he shouldn’t have been certified.
