Republicans 'ready to participate' in Obama's health care summit
Washington Post ^ | Feb 21, 2010 | Shailagh Murray and Michael D. Shear

The Senate's top Republican promised Sunday morning that he and his members will attend President Obama's health care summit on Thursday "ready to participate" but said the Democrats are being "arrogant" by refusing to scrap their legislation and start over.

"You know, they are saying, "Ignore the wishes of the American people. We know more about this than you do. And we're going to jam it down your throats no matter what," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Fox News Sunday.

Judging by many of the replies I wonder if any of you actually even read the two paragraph excerpt, not just the title.

McConnell made it very clear they are not about to roll over. He and the Republicans deserve credit for standing together in opposition of the monstrous bill pushed by Obamam and the Dems.

“You know, they are saying, “Ignore the wishes of the American people. We know more about this than you do. And we’re going to jam it down your throats no matter what,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Fox News Sunday.

If Republicans didn’t show up, I can see thousands of Dem ads in the fall showing the empty chairs and, claiming that the Dems “reached out” to the GOP, but “the Republicans were more interested in partisanship, than solving the problems to help the American people”.

Showing up is the only option they have, they just have to be very careful, not to be suckered in by the Dems into saying the wrong things.

At the very least Republicans should demand equal setting, if Obama gets a lectern and TOTUS, Republicans should have someone as the equal Republican President of the US Health Care Debate with a lectern and a TOTUS

Is this the budget that will require only 51 Senate votes to pass?

So, this summit is just a photo op to embarrass the OP?

Sorry Man50D - I saw a straw and I was clinging to it;(

Yes! This shakedown is nothing more than a formality. It's window dressing to put the socialists in a more favorable light and the spineless OP is falling for this so called bipartisanship ploy once again. Bipartisanship is socialist speak for accept our agenda or else. The OP is the only sorry group.

If the Dems go this foolish route then the Repubs’ 2010 campaign slogan should be, “elect a Repub majority in the House and Senate and we will defund Pelosicare/Obamacare/Reidcare.

But BawhackO is drawing up a compromise between the Democrat bill in the House and the democrat bill in the Senate. Doesn’t that just give you the warm fuzzies? /s

***All McConell had to do was say that the American people have said loud and clear that they don't support socialism and as a result we cannot participate in this meeting.***

I bet there are millions of democrats and independents thanking God that the Republicans are not backing ObamaCare. Remember, 80% of Americans are happy with their insurance and access to care. The Republicans should not go!

I am so sick of RINOs “reaching across the aisle.” NO COMPROMISES!!!! Put a fork in this mess once and for all.

>>>>>Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) urged Democrats Sunday to abandon their comprehensive health care efforts in favor of smaller, targeted changes.

Instead of Mitch McConnell, too bad the Republicans in Congress don't have Haley Barbour leading them in opposition to the liberal Democrats health care reform. Its time the GOP stopped saying "no" and started yelling "HELL NO" to the leftists socialist alternative to free market choices.

It's also a good time for Republicans to demand Arnold Schwarzenegger leave the GOP and join the Democrats.

I have said it before, there are many RINOs who are trembling, panting, stomping their feet and sweating cold sweats wanting so badly to vote for this bill. They have been thrashing like addicts in the throes of withdrawal. They have been looking for any excuse to side with Barky and get away with and if by attending this summit they think they can cover their ass, they will go for it. I have no faith in the GOP. This is the party that nominated John “I promise to reach across the aisle my friends” McCain for God’s sake. The party that proudly boasts “The Gang of 14” and all such crap. Boastful about how much they work with Democrats. I think the if there is going to be a trap sprung, it should be when there is a full joint session, we chain the doors shut and set the whole place ablaze with them in it.

Don’t forget that Mitch and the rest of the crew collaborated with George W. Bush to give the American people amnesty for illegal aliens. They joined hands with the Democrats to alter American politics for all times by legitimizing millions of Mexicans who owe allegience to Mexico.

Not the United States, but Mexico. I laugh when I think about the total transformation of America that Barack Obama has identified as his goal. Wouldn’t amnesty have also achieved a total transformation of America?

I have heard the expression “Democrat lite” many times. That is exactly what the Republican Party has been serving us for some time now. Both Parties have been playing ping pong with the American people. Vote for either party and you get the same result. The difference has become smaller as time goes on.

Look for the Republicans to go into this meeting talking tough and come out with a watered down Democratic party plan. A plan that will leave open the door for more incremental steps toward Obama’s stated goal.

Obama warned lawmakers on both sides of the aisle Saturday not to turn the health-care summit into "political theater,

Accuse the opposition of what you are doing.

And what galls me, drives me completely beserk and makes me kick my poor dog is listening to these worthless sons of bitches pontificate about how the American people are so much better off and how they did our bidding.

What the hell are you smoking you ignorant bastard? Seeing how Congress has just turned it's back on America makes me mourn even more for the brave folks on United Flight 93. They fought the terrorists and gave up their lives for this bunch?

The OP(formerly the GOP) are a bunch of idiots for attending this charade.

Gimme a break. I assure you, McConnell and the Republicans know exactly what they are walking into.
"PLEASE, don't throw me into that briar patch!"
