Terri Schiavo’s death and new findings may rally life defenders
Ann Arbor Examiner ^ | February 18, 2010 | Kevin Fobbs

Posted on 02/19/2010 6:07:22 AM PST by Kfobbs

To say that the purposeful murder of an innocent human being is tragic would be truthful, right? To murder an innocent woman who was taken from the bosom of her family was wrong. To have it done with the self-serving suspect-expedient reasoning used by Michael Schiavo’s medical authorities in state of Florida and political anti-life activists in Washington and across the nation was shame before God.

In cities like Ann Arbor, Cleveland, Boston, St. Louis and many others, faith leaders as well as followers of the pro-life movement can be buoyed by the news of a recent published medical study supporting the rightful contention that Terri’s life was unjustly...

They sure had the buzzwords down pat, almost like they had internalized exactly what they had been reading from the Associated Press. And not all of them were trolls.

They might not have been trolls, but NONE OF THEM were conservatives. Two years later a lot of them left after Jim made it clear that FR wouldn't be used to push Rudy for president.

I remember also the heated arguments that took place here over this issue when my article was published at AIM and read on the air by G. Gordon Liddy:
http://www.aim.org/publications/briefings/2003/oct14.html

During the lawsuit over what caused Terri Schiavo’s brain injury, the husband Michael testified that he intended to use the funds to care for her. Within 6 months he was doing everything he could to deny her care while he bought himself a new house, a new car and made a new family with another woman while he was still married.

He refused to let Terri out of the marriage so her parents could care for her. It was clear that operating on the motive that the longer she stayed alive, the less money he’d be left with.

And yet, many here in Free Republic were arguing in favor of Terri being starved to death. There reasoning was that they wouldn’t want to live that way. In the end, she suffered a slow and painful death that would be deemed a war crime if done deliberately.

Terri Schiavo was not in a persistent vegetative state; she moved and responded to her environment. She had a brain injury.

As a member of the Brain Injury Association of Virginia and being close to such people, I can tell you that they have lives worth living and have much to offer.

The bottom line: We should have no right to decide who lives or dies based upon whether we would want to live like that. I am not ready to give up on our civilization having a heart and concede to the Brave New World.

Thanks for the history. I was never so mad here as I was at all of them for pushing the AP lies on FR.

The deathbots died inside a long time ago.

That’s why there’s nothing human left of them.

And sadly, they’re still here on FR.

As I said, it's entirely likely that some of them will see this thread and go off again on why murdering Terri was the right thing to do.

Here is PROOF that Michael Schiavo did not say early on that she wanted to die and actually said she was getting better:

He didn't start his crusade to murder Terri until AFTER she was awarded a large sum of money.

George Felos made contribution to Greer day after key ruling by court in Terri's case

I'm waiting for the explanation for that from the deathbots.

I'm glad you posted that. The trolls probably aren't too happy about though. Here's the hard copy, just to annoy them a little more.

“...the left.... the democrat party..... are supporters and lovers of death.”

You know, your comment here just flicked a switch on for me. I've always tried to make sense of why you never hear the left say anything negative about extremist muslims. Bin Laden came right out and said it....in so many words-”We love death. The US loves life.” For pro-death leftists, abortion is a sacrament in their death-based religion.

Leftists and terrorists are peas in a pod!

“....what disgusted me the most were the self-proclaimed conservatives who wanted Terri dead.”

Yes, that was what sickened ME the most. That’s where my personal sense of betrayal came from. I had, naively expected anyone who called themselves ‘conservative’ to automatically come down on the side of life. I was wrong.... and I felt quite disillusioned for a long time.

Decades ago I helped treat brain injury patients as part of a team using cross crawl therapy. Many patients, who subsequently showed improvement, were less responding to their environment than was Terri when we started working on them.

Yes, that is one of my chief memories of that time, and why I found it SO hard to come here for such a long time. I just couldn’t understand how a member of THIS site could possible write.... and feel.... what I was reading. It depressed me. I had thought of Free Republic as my.... sanctuary... if you will. The ONE place I could come to, occasionally share on..... and KNOW that the people here truly understood my perspective... as it was theirs as well. I was grieved to discover I was wrong. I felt like a fool... lost.

Get a Will to Live, which is NOT the same as a Living Will. If you’re unable to speak for yourself when you are ill, the person named in the Will to Live can speak for you.

It gives instructions for all fifty states.

With the Lent season upon us, let us ask our communities of faith to stand up for life. And if we are to give up on something for Lent, then let it be our doubt, let it be or hesitation, let it be our reservation of belief in supporting God’s most precious gift to us: the gift of life.

Amen.

And this is why it still stuns me when I encounter people who err on the side of death. I have no desire to prolong suffering and don’t think that people who definitively have no brain activity should be artificially kept alive.

But there is a cadre of people who wish to off those who suffer any sort of mental impairment. One of the most insightful and giving persons I know has a TBI. She has responded to her brain injury much like a blind person; she compensates for her impairment by making extra effort.

She listens/reads more carefully and often has a deeper grasp than most. If her family had given up on her when she was in a coma, she would be languishing in a nursing home if alive at all. She is currently a graduate student and is one of those people who lights up a room when she enters.

We cannot survive as a civilization if we decide to toss such people like so much refuse.
