Elton John: Jesus was Gay
The Sun ^ | 02/18/09

Posted on 02/18/2010 5:35:32 PM PST by MissesBush

JESUS was GAY - according to the gospel of SIR ELTON JOHN. The singer makes his controversial claim about the Lord in a new US interview that will enrage America's bible belt.

Elton, 62, declares as he pours out his heart to a magazine: "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems."

He adds: "Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East - you're as good as dead."

He goes on in the same interview to describe how he and DAVID FURNISH, 47 - now his "husband" - first got together.

The pop veteran tells Parade magazine: "I was attracted to David immediately. He was very well dressed, very shy. The next night we had dinner.

"After it, we fell in love very quickly."

He said of previous lovers: "I'd always choose someone younger. I wanted to smother them with love. I'd take them around the world, try to educate them.

"One after another they got a Cartier watch, a Versace outfit, maybe a sports car.

"They didn't have jobs. They were reliant on me.

"In six months they were bored and hated my guts because I'd taken their lives and self-worth away. I hadn't intended to."

"Dan Brown's DaVinci Code borrowed ALOT from a very popular book that came out some 25 years ago, entilted Holy Blood, Holy Grail."

I'm sorry, I'll have to reread my post, but I'm pretty sure there's no mention of "Dan Brown", or any of his books in it.

I went to Catholic grade school, high school, college and graduate school, more than 25 years ago, to be sure. I've heard several Priests and theological scholars opine that it was very possible that Jesus was married.

"I plan to ask [Jesus] that question one day."

You know what? When I meet Jesus, none of this extraneous pseudotheological crap is going to matter one bit.

Logically speaking, that would be a perfectly reasonable presumption. Many, I'm sure, will take that statement as blasphemous in and of itself. But, given the social and religious conventions (Jesus was an observant Jew, a Rabbi in fact) of the time, it would have been highly unusual if he wasn't married, yet the conventional lore is that he wasn't; A mystery that will perhaps never be solved.

Yes, because we all know that there was nothing out of the ordinary about Jesus. He was just another run-of-the-mill jewish boy. /SARCASM

The idea that Jesus was married is highly illogical, and the only reason I can think of that anyone would make that assertion would be to cast doubt on his divinity, which is blasphemous by definition.

Let's look at this from a logical viewpoint: Jesus was believed to be the Son of God, yet those who chronicled His life from birth to death never bother to mention that He was married? Not a single Book mentions His marriage? They wouldn't consider that newsworthy in of itself? Perhaps, more importantly, if one believed that Jesus was the Son of God, then wouldn't one be extremely interested in the possibility of the Son of God having a child, or children, which would then be the grandchildren of God? Don't you think that sort of thing would be worth a mention by at least one of the chroniclers?

And the idea that Jesus wouldn't be taken seriously by anyone in that era if He weren't married is beyond ludicrous. Somehow, the logic is that He might walk on water, turn water into wine, raise the dead, and cast out demons, but those acts wouldn't even raise an eyebrow because He is not married? What the heck?

Lastly, if you are familiar with the New Testament, Jesus says specifically that it is better to be celibate, but that if you must indulge, then find a wife so that you are not sinning. Don't you think that might be a clue as to His marital status?

Shut up and sing, Elton, because you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about.

“I’d take them around the world, try to educate them”

I think he needs to stay at home and read the Bible and educate himself on who Jesus really was.

Where is John the Baptist’s marital status (or our Lord’s) discussed in the Bible?

You are correct Vet--it's not found either way. However John the Baptist, desert dweller, highly unlikely to have been married. But we have no solid proof.

Given the social conventions of the time, it was highly unusual to rise from the dead.

Jesus, a Jewish Rabbi, preaching Jewish tradition is suppose to inform his marital status. Yeah, I'm not seeing it.

My parents both told me that sex out of wedlock is sin. I'm fairly confident both were married.

Since when are OFF’s (Old Frickin Fag’s) experts on Christianity? Most homosexuals DESPISE Christianity as they’re well aware that God sees their promiscuous, disease ridden, deviant lifestyle as an abomination.

As far as Mrs John’s (how can a wife be a “Sir”?) delusional statement about the Son of God being a homosexual (i.e a deviant, who by Mrs John’s thinking, didn’t honor His Father):

Jesus affirmed God’s plan for men and women to couple (Mt. 19:3-8). Paul clearly denounces homosexuality as a vile sin against human nature that leads to a depraved mind and is worthy of death (Rom. 1:26-32). Scripture also includes homosexuals in lists of those who will not enter heaven (1 Cor. 6:9-11; Rev. 21:8). To say that the Bible is clear on this issue is an understatement, it is almost inconceivable that anyone could seriously question it. Yet homosexuals will attempt to avoid the force of these statements by rereading the text according to their own views.

Actually, pointing out that Jesus is described as kissing men, seemingly to the exclusion of women, was relevant to several posts in the course of the discussion.

One particularly interesting discussion involved the oddity that Jesus was single as an educated adult man practicing the faith.

I was not promoting an agenda as much as I was pointing out another oddity.

No, really. Be more specific.

By the way, interesting posting history you have there.

A vote for Sarah Palin is a vote to keep Obama in the Whitehouse?

She’s not qualified enough, as if obama was?

Regulation of concealed carry is reasonable because the Second Amendment calls for regulation?

And that’s just on the first page.

What’s your DU screen name?

Would it really make a difference if Jesus had had a wife? It was the Catholic church that introduced celibacy for the preisthood long after Jesus' death and Ressurection.

Whether he was wed or celibate doesn't diminish him in the least but calling him 'gay' does. Elton John won't be remembered in another twenty years, even with this stunt.
