U.S. Sen. John McCain has picked up the endorsement of former actor and Sen. Fred Thompson while opponent J.D. Hayworth gets ready for an event with Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and State Sen. Russell Pearce.
Hayworth and McCain, seeking a fifth term, are battling in the Republican Senate primary this year.
Thompson a former senator from Tennessee and actor on the Law & Order television show announced his endorsement Wednesday. McCain and Thompson both ran for president in 2008.
Im for John McCain. I hope he gets re-elected. Ill help him get re-elected if I can. Its more important for me, and I believe for the country, to have McCains leadership and the respect that he brings to bear on an issue. When he takes the floor on a national security matter. When he takes the floor and leads the intellectual effort the for the surge. When, without his efforts, I dont think we would have ever had a surge and therefore we would never have had a victory in Iraq, Thompson said.
Hayworth, Thomas and Pearce will appear together Feb. 24 in Tempe. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio also backs Hayworth over long-time foe McCain.

You need to make up your mind. Do you think my posts are “transparent”, or “carefully couched”?
Neither is accurate, but you need to pick one side or another before I can explain how wrong you are.
The article said:
"..McCain also has the backing of U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and former running mate Sarah Palin..."
That is a short list for a long time incumbent. McCain is way ahead in the polls, but the support may not be that firm.
The transparency comes in the clumsiness of your couching. So I was incorrect to say “carefully” couched.
Well, acknowledging your errors is the first step toward recovery.
Juan McQueeg is more than equipped to fight dirty, mean & nasty. Lies are his friend. Now what if he won the primary but then lost to the demoRat in Nov? oh wait...he’s one isnt he?
Thankfully my recovery doesn’t have to start with repenting of being a liar. I dealt with that when I was a child.
The funny thing is that this entire time, you seem to assume I support McCain, and am therefore trying to hurt Hayworth. That is the fatal assumption that has led you to repeated false conclusions.
I do however like Fred Thompson, and find the attacks on him in this thread unsupportable. I also don’t fault Palin for supporting McCain like some people do.
On a theological note, if you truly have managed to never break the commandment “thou shalt not lie” for your entire adult life, I congratulate you. If however you are saying that by repenting of lying as a child, that repentance covers all the lies you tell for the remainder of your life, I will say that my understanding of scripture is at odds with that opinion.
“but when you keep harping about Haworth’s few shortcomings, it’s bashing.”
Bullpucky. Pointing out someone’s inconsistencies, whether it’s Palin or Haworth, makes one honest and is the difference ‘tween us and the RATS.
I support Haworth in this race. I totally oppose McLame.
So I take it your happy with President Obama? As long as it isn’t one of those terrible RINOs, huh?
And who did you support? Ron Paul?
Silly purist nonsense.
Do you believe that the Bush administration had something to do with the 9/11 attacks, too?
They are trying to keep McCain in the Fold.
If he looses to Hayworth, The annointed one will apoint McCain to a post that will drive us nuts.....
“Do you believe that the Bush administration had something to do with the 9/11 attacks, too?”
I shouldn’t even bother to answer such a stupid commnet. What do you expect to accomplish with such crappola. I NEVER said anything about any of that. Stop making up your nonsense.
You Palinites are every bit as bad as the Obamaites with your ridiculous assumptions and lies. You do her NO favor.
No one has to dream up silly conspiracies to face the fact that the Bush administration started a lot of the mess we’re in.
Oh yes. That’s exactly what I said. You’re just so smart and clever. Why don’t you stop wearing your emotions on your sleeve like a liberal.
I just said it’s probably a good thing Fred dropped out. From that, you conclude I’m happy with Obama. You are a mental giant, there.
And it’s YOU’RE (you are), not YOUR.
I was a Fred supporter in the beginning if it means anything to you. Unlike Palin, Fred has NO OBLIGATION TO SUPPORT MCCAIN. Nothing in terms of protocol or anything made Fred HAVE TO back McCain. Fred would not have gotten ripped up and down if he said nothing, or even supported Hayworth.
One of the finest, most well reasoned piece of writing that I have ever read.
Post #263 is a keeper. I’ve copied and pasted it and I’m sending it on to MANY people.
DoughtyOne, you my FRiend (like SJB) are an FR Treasure.
I aspire to emulate both of you.
‘vaya con Dios!!’ :)
Thanks to you both. That was very nice of you.
I dont. You? Palin?? the so called conservative who endorsed and is also campaigning for McCain.
“Silly purist nonsense.”
Let me guess....I’ll bet you’re a “silly purist” when it comes to abortion? and I’ll bet you’re a “silly purist” when it comes to gay marriage? and I’ll bet you’re a “silly purist” when it comes to the second amendment?
