AZ-Sen. 2010: Fred Thompson endorses John McCain (Fred lavishes praise on RINO McCain)
The Phoenix Business Journal ^ | 2010-02-15

Posted on 02/17/2010 7:33:31 PM PST by rabscuttle385

U.S. Sen. John McCain has picked up the endorsement of former actor and Sen. Fred Thompson while opponent J.D. Hayworth gets ready for an event with Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and State Sen. Russell Pearce.

Hayworth and McCain, seeking a fifth term, are battling in the Republican Senate primary this year.

Thompson — a former senator from Tennessee and actor on the “Law & Order” television show — announced his endorsement Wednesday. McCain and Thompson both ran for president in 2008.

“I’m for John McCain. I hope he gets re-elected. I’ll help him get re-elected if I can. It’s more important for me, and I believe for the country, to have McCain’s leadership and the respect that he brings to bear on an issue. When he takes the floor on a national security matter. When he takes the floor and leads the intellectual effort the for the surge. When, without his efforts, I don’t think we would have ever had a surge and therefore we would never have had a victory in Iraq,” Thompson said.

Hayworth, Thomas and Pearce will appear together Feb. 24 in Tempe. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio also backs Hayworth over long-time foe McCain.

I get Thompson's newsletter. Can't wait till I get the next one to hit the "reply" button.

That smoking blue dart you see streaking past your window will be my guided missile to someone who just pulled the rug out from under me.

BTW....watch out....the unholy alliance of O'Reilly and Beck is trying to undermine the Tea Party movement. Furthermore, I'm hanging onto Palin with my fingertips as I'm watching to see if she's going to be playing both sides against the middle.

An evil wind is blowing......

>> Romney, Huckabee and Palin’s endorsements draw more fire because the three of them are presumed candidates for 2012. Thompson is not. <<

Sorry, that excuse doesn't hold water if we look at past elections.

Fred Thompson was a "presumed candidate" for President during the 2008 election cycle and his history of endorsing RINOs drew absolutely no ire on this forum. Everyone else that endorsed the kinds of people that Fred did caught hell for it. When the NRSC ran ads promoting socialist Linc Chafee in the 2006 primary, a bunch of freepers vowed to "never again" donate to them. Let me know if you can locate any posts where freepers vowed to "never again" donate to Fred when not only endorsed Chafee, but personally came to Rhode Island to campaign for Chafee over the conservative challenger. Nobody retaliated against him in 2008 for helping elect a bunch of RINOs.

I think the FredRepublic will seem tame in comparison to what may be coming.

JD has raised $77,723 so far. Not bad for a guy that's not getting any press. Even Fox News wont have him on. Maybe it's a conflict of interest for them since Sarah works for them now.

The difference is, Thompson wasn’t a presumed candidate when he made the Chafee endorsement. All politicians have hinky endorsements in their past—it’s who they endorse while they’re actually running (or presumed to be running) that gets people’s attention.

Likewise, you don’t see a lot of ire here thrown at DeMint for endorsing the fraudulent Mitt Romney—but if he runs for the 2012 GOP nomination and in the process endorses someone of Romney’s ilk, the fur will fly.

“I think the FredRepublic will seem tame in comparison to what may be coming.”

Yeah, I wanted to slip away before that happens. I had a colonoscopy, and the only problem they could find is from having Dole, Bush, Thompson, McCain and Lord knows what else shoved up my butt for the last 20 years by the ‘faithful’.

Good night!

Just so we can get this out of the way imo it’s time people stop being delusional about this flight and acknowledge a few cold hard facts. The establishment, even some conservatives, will line up behind McCain because he has been there so long and has deep connections among them. People need to stop reacting as though it’s unexpected or a betrayal. They need to start ignoring these endorsements and fighting McCain rather then being sidetracked by what McCain’s connections have bought him.

The establishment even pretty good ones will not help J.D. If J.D. wins it will be due to grassroots conservatives, Tea Party’s and convincing Independents. This is not like Rubio. Jeb Bush hates Crist and is This is more like Toomey where the establishment went all out to sandbag him even as recent as a year ago.

Now, the one thing that would help is if like Toomey somehow J.D. could gain the Club For Growth’s backing. They have some resources to fight the establishment better then unorganized grassroots do.

JD Haworth can run right over McMexico because he is a lot like Scott Brown, something we don’t see in so many pols, he speaks out and shows what he is & what he”s for, leaving no doubt. Brown won against the powerful Kennedy Machine.

Anyone notice how much McCain has been on FoxNews this week? He was even on Greta tonight. This is becoming a joke. I wonder why they won’t have JD on?

“now you understand his role in the race. His role was to split the conservative vote so that McCain would win.”

BINGO!
