NAPLES The Bush brothers packed the house at the Naples Grande Beach Resort.
Former President George W. Bush and his brother Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, spoke Tuesday night as part of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speakers Series. They talked issues _ everything from health care and the Iraq war to budget deficits and Social Security reform.
George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. president, has stayed out of the spotlight, limiting his face-time in public since leaving the White House about a year ago.
He and his brother the states 43rd governor addressed a crowd of more than 1,000 who purchased tickets to see them. Tickets to hear the duo speak started at $200.
The brothers had the crowd laughing, clapping and sighing with heart-felt emotions as they showed their more personal side. A few times, George W. Bush fought tears as he talked about the support of his wife in the Oval Office and how his decisions to send more troops to Iraq hurt families in the U.S. who lost their sons, daughters, husbands and wives to the war.

But it IS! :)
And he's just as sweet now as he was then. He remembers you fondly, Nan. I wish you could see him now. A man. A real man!
(And I eventually did wash my cheek. ;*)
My job is iffy this year. I've been there 6 years. They "love me to pieces" and I "bring the best messages they've ever had".......BUT. When I hear that "but", I know it's time to move on. The but, of course, is the "woman" thing. I wish I could retire, but can't really afford to. It would be nice to be able to write that book. Oh well, It's God's call. That is what I told the folks and my D.S.
Love you, Hugs
Eric has graduated now, but is doing a recital after the fact, so we'll be going to see him in April (I think!).
Mostly these days the mountain comes to Mohammed and not the other way around (can we still use that expression these days? ;)
I'll pray for you and yours my dear friend. Oh, and make sure to check out my Facebook pics and you can see Eric all growd up. :)
I kept waiting until Kathey was free to drive for me before trying to arrange a lunch. I don't wish her aunt to pass away, but I sure do miss my "right hand" friend.
LOL! That's a good one, W-fan, really! And you show a whole lot of naive gullibility for believing it, perfesser, because it was a political stunt, pure and simple!
I know this because of two important facts:
1. There is not one other recorded instance of a president in American history putting on a military uniform (in Bush's case, a Navy flight) suit and going to visit the troops. Check out the photos of Lincoln, Wilson, FDR, Truman, LBJ, Nixon, Reagan...even "Heckuva Job's" old man, "Read My Lips" and you won't find one photograph of a president out of a business suit.
2. The second reason I know it was a stunt is because I happen to have met a Sailor (now a retired aviation boatswainsmate CPO) who was on the Lincoln at the time. He told me Bush could have easily helicoptered out to the aircraft carrier as other presidents have in the past in meeting the crews of incoming naval surface combatants. But he wanted to come in making the "trap" and getting the photo op as if he'd been there, right in the middle of "Shock and Awe" air campaign as a combat pilot, giving it to the Iraqis who "disruspected mah daddy!"
Now, look, I told you I voted for both "Read My Lips" (even though he somehow was content to pull a stalemate out of an overwhelming victory against Saddam during Gulf War I) AND his uninspiring, incompetent son who has cause this nation I love much of my (and yours) future great-children's TARP debt. Still, I could almost forgive him of the mistakes he made; save one: THE ELECTION OF HUSSEIN!
Are they supporting Rubio?
Are you kidding? If anyone stood on principle, it was GW Bush.
“Are you kidding? If anyone stood on principle, it was GW Bush.”
It matters what principle you stand on.
I understand your conflicted feelings about Kathy. When you see her, tell her I said Hi! and that I'll pray for her.
There are some nice photos of Eric's graduation on FB, so if you get there, take a look.
Maybe some time I can just get in my old van and come all the way to WV to see you. I would LOVE that!
2. Same answer as #1. The Commander in Chief clearly had fun flying the jet to the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln. Of course he could have flown a helicopter, but he loves to fly (as jet pilots do).
I notice there's a (small) cabal of Bush haters on this forum who keep blaming Bush for Obama. It's not historically accurate. It's based on emotions and not fact.
FACT - McCain was a very, very bad candidate who campaigned more against Bush than he did against Obama
FACT - the incessant media lies over 8 years, particularly about our mission in Iraq, beat down the President's approval numbers and resulted in a faux "Bush fatigue" (They also lied about the Mission Accomplished sign, and bashed the President for his "stunt" exactly as you just did. You and the left are on the same page quite often, aren't you?)
FACT - the media was slobbering over Obama, lying about him, covering up his sordid radical past
FACT - a whole lot of young'ns and some older folks had a whole lot of white guilt and voted for the black guy to assuage it.
FACT - there was a Democrat caused, suspicious financial collapse that was falsely blamed on Bush and McCain acted clueless about what to do
FACT - Obama was the cool guy, the American Idol candidate, and he succeeded in convincing a lot of young people to vote for him, even if they weren't leftists.
Those are just a few of the reasons we got a radical Marxist traitor in the White House.
Blaming Bush for it is baseless outside of personal feelings.
Now - if you get off your bogus Bush-is-the-devil kick here, maybe we can work together and get rid of the Marxist.
How about it?
Obama lied in every speech, in every debate, in every appearance, about what he was going to do, and fooled a lot of independents into thinking he was a good guy who wanted to be 'non-partisan.'
None of those independents now support him.
Not Bush's fault meandog. The facts don't support your feelings.
“1. Bush was a Navy pilot. There was a reason for the uniform. He flew the plane.”
GWB was never a Naval Aviator. Stop lying.
“Of course he could have flown a helicopter, but he loves to fly (as jet pilots do).”
He’s helicopter rated now? When did that happen?
“Now - if you get off your bogus Bush-is-the-devil kick here, maybe we can work together and get rid of the Marxist.”
I don’t think any conservative wants to work with a liberal like you.
But don't worry, I'm not going to do it. I don't feel like humiliating you again.
Learn right from wrong, do one single thing in your life to promote conservatism, and then get back to me.
(I can relax about that, because you never will).
“Ah yes, the boy who’s never lifted a finger to elect a conservative nor done anything remotely conservative in his life, and who calls me an “un-American twit” in sheer desperation, coming back for more punishment by a truth teller.”
You are a serial liar, lady. I know you have this weird fantasy about George W. Bush, but you really should keep that private.
“Learn right from wrong, do one single thing in your life to promote conservatism, and then get back to me.”
You first, defender of despicable, globalist, anti-American liberals - as long as you like them, of course.
So you think that the fact that the economic crisis was Democrat induced, and tried to be stopped by President Bush, and that McCain's failure to respond to it, along with Obama's incessant lying and the leftist media bias did not cause the turn-around in the poll numbers, but that George W. Bush did.
Wow. Unbelieveable.
Of course the fact that you have revealed a personal, non-rational animus toward President Bush (by calling him "Kennebunkport's village idiot??" Where did you get that one? Huffpo? Daily Kos? DU?) has nothing to do with your twisted perception of the events of the fall of 2008.
Don't blame the left - Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Barack Obama, George Soros - oh no! Don't blame the persons responsible for what happened. Oh, no!
Blame Bush. And by doing so, speak in strong agreement with the very people who caused the economic meltdown.......the radical left
That's conservatism, alright. Yep. Agree with the enemy. Yep.
Oh, you betcha! You know that JustAmy and Mama_Bear came one summer for several days, and then MB and her hubby Jeff, came and stayed a week. We had the best time. I gave them a walking tour of the town as Katy Ulen, my re-enactor character. We went to all 5 museaums, and walked the river front to see the murals on the flood walls. When the weather gets good you and your husband should come and spend a few days seeing WV. I think it would be a great vacation for you, and you know about the private guest room.
Whose signature is on the law authorizing TARP?
Oh, wait, that's George W. Bush's signature!
