Back in the 1970's and 1980's, the Republicans ran some good conservative candidates against Waxman, including Elliot Graham, a pro-Second Amendment activist who was also active in the Young Americans for Freedom, and Paul Zerg, a noted architect. Unfortunately, they only got about one third of the vote due to the district's demographics.
