Medina strikes back after 9/11 comments (repeats debunked truther claim as evidence)
ABC News Houston ^ | 02/12/2010 | Ted Oberg

Posted on 02/15/2010 7:58:48 AM PST by BuckeyeTexan

One day after Republican candidate for governor Debra Medina's insurgent campaign hit a speed bump, she's striking back. After comments on Glenn Beck's radio show Thursday that seemed to support 9/11 conspiracy theories, she says she was set up by her opponents.

-snip-

We sat down with Medina to put the comments and her campaign in focus.

It is seemingly all Debra Medina can talk about now.

-snip-

In her news conference Friday, it is clear Medina was trying to clean up the mess. But in our interview with her hours after the Beck radio show, she repeated there are still questions that need to be answered. On Friday, she told reporters she is curious why no New York City police officers died in the towers when so many firefighters did. That's not true, however, as 60 police officers were killed.

We've posted more of our interview with Medina here so you can hear thoughts on 9/11 conspiracies and President Barack Obama's citizenship.

For a topic that is irrelevant to the Texas Governor, she sure wants to talk about it now.

As chairman of the Wharton County Republican Party, she has stood up to the big government establishment and fought to hold our party accountable to our platform and our conservative Texas values.

Translated, she didn't like that Ron Paul lost the primary so she sued to keep the RNC from seating delegates at the state convention.

Yes, but Clayton Williams wasn’t set up by anyone. He was a complete buffoon when it came to handling the press, when it came to campaign strategy, and when it came to presenting himself. It doesn’t help that it seems every nutjob out there thinks that because Jesse Ventura and Al Franken were able to get elected in Minnesota, that any old clown can win anywhere. We didn’t buy that with Kinky, and maybe the GOP in Texas learned its lesson with Claytie.

It’s not even the Truther thing that scares me, it’s that believing that is a sign of weak mindedness and insanity. If she’ll fall for that, she’ll fall for anything.

I’d encourage FR birthers to listen to Medina’s interview with ABC News Houston. Towards the end, she addresses the natural born citizen controversy.

The video is at the link I provided. The title of it is “Medina clarifies her 9/11 comments.” It’s under Related Topics in the linked article.

And the TTC? He displayed an arrogance equal only to Obama on that issue. And it aint dead yet...

If you ever drive I-35 through central Texas, and don't want to see some kind of improved North-South transporational corridor through Texas, I don't know what to say about that. We need to improve the transporation infrastructure with something that will accommodate interstate commerce, intrastate traffic flow, and growth. The only way to accommodate that is going to be a combination of Federal funding for the interstate highway system and foreign investment, unless you want to see HUGE taxpayer funding far beyond what most taxpayers would want to see. Some aspects of the various TTC proposals are very unappealing, while other aspects of some of the TTC proposals make a lot of sense.

What is your suggestion for improving the capacity of the I-35 corridor just to bring up to adequacy for current demand, let alone accommodating the growth of the next few years?

>>maybe the GOP in Texas learned its lesson with Claytie<<

Nope, I don't think they did. Looks like Gov. Good Hair will remain as Gov.

The thing that concerns me, he put plans for the TTC (even changed the name)until after the election. His toll road thing, put off till after the election.....wanna guess why?

He knows that these plans were hugely unpopular and his chances of an election victory would be greatly reduced if he continued to push for them up to the election, so his handlers advised a pause.

You will see Perry's renewed push for these plans in the months following the election.

Furthermore, all his 10th amendment/succession rhetoric will vanish as well as the tough border security talk.

Citizens have such short memories, except of coarse, the farmers and ranchers that ded-gum near lost the land they've work so hard for.

Some of her supporters claim that her first words in response to Glenn Beck were “I don’t ...”

"I haven't taken a public position" not "I don't". These people are grasping on her behalf, she herself has been floundering. Glenn did not set her up in any way, she accepted his offer for an interview which she constantly turned into a monologue, talking over Glenn repeatedly, he inquired of her after he received numerous emails (Pat did also) from Texans telling him she maintained a truther stance ... was he not to ask her? Was he to ignore her immediate reply, move on to the next question??

I questioned her honesty on the first thread out of the box, she had an answer ready, after more inquiry, she then tells Glenn this is the first time she's heard she's getting this tag -- how am I to believe that when he got so many emails? What, were they all Perry and Hutchison supporters trying to smear her?? Or has this issue come up in some other public forum in Texas, as it appears on the face? (No answer to that one has been forthcoming as yet). Now reading in the earlier post that she went on a national radio show when she has been pushing to keep the primary in-state, well ...

She only proves the old adage accurate: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

"Didnt he use an executive order type writ to establish the HPV mandate? Then, only after the Texas legislature threatened him with hell on earth, did he rescind it. Thanks for clearing that one up Paytriot. btw great name and tagline.

Maybe an analogy will help.

If I plan to rob a bank, and I have my co-conspirators get hired on as employees of the bank to provide me with info on guard routes, who has access to what, etc., then it is usually considered an ‘inside job’.

The collection of terrorists who flew the planes into the ground and into the WTC towers and the Pentagon were living here in the US. They had taken FLIGHT SCHOOL training here in the US. Many of them were already known by US Intel Agencies. Our Intel Agencies have been infected with people who would ‘ignore’ signs of a terrorist activity beginning, if they thought it would embarrass a Republican Administration.

Many who are sure the FBI,CIA, and High level politicians were not involved (or just ignored signs of) 9/11 are also sure that those same agencies/people were involved in the Oklahoma City Bombing.

Then there was the Valerie Plame/Joe Wilson incident. This involved coverup in some of the higher levels of our government. It is rather ironic that Joe Wilson, who claimed Niger was not selling Yellowcake Ore to Saddam, was the Owner of the company which was the primary broker for the President of Niger, whose main export was ‘yellowcake ore’, and the reason he went to Niger was to discuss such a sale. And it wasn’t the first time. He went on a trip to Niger during the Clinton and during the Bush Administration on ‘company business’ and was offered up by Valerie to ‘spy’ for our Government and report back. He, of course, reported there were no DIRECT sales from Niger to Saddam, which was true because the sales were done through a third party country.

What I DO NOT mean, by inside job, is that it was ‘ordered’ by President Bush. If that’s what you think I mean, you are mistaken.

Well, to be honest, I think Glenn Beck DID set her up.

And it’s a darned good thing he did. Better to find out now rather than later.

Setting her up would be to ask her for a specific remedy for the state's franchise tax, and if corrected, how much could property taxes be reduced.

Asking if she thinks the government was behind 9/11 is not a trick question. It is obvious from her answer that she is a truther.

Didnt he use an executive order type writ to establish the HPV mandate? Then, only after the Texas legislature threatened him with hell on earth, did he rescind it. He never actually listened to the people.

To my knowledge, Rick Perry didn't rescind that executive order. The Texas legislature passed HB 1098 to rescind the EO. Rick Perry allowed the bill to become law without his signature.

If he weren't listening to the multitude of objections by the people of Texas he'd have vetoed the bill. (IMHO) When the American College of Pediatricians, the Texas Medical Association, and the people of Texas spoke out against mandating the vaccination, the legislature acted. IMHO, Perry acquiesced to the will of the people even though he believed the vaccine should be required.

It’s beginning to look like between the RINO’s, birthers, 9/11 truthers, liberals and Ron Paulies, the GOP is effectively shattered and we can expect 40 or more years of Democrat Socialist control as we continue infighting.

Have you bothered to listen to the interview? She was not set-up she was asked a question and she said what she said. She did it to herself, Glenn just gave her enough rope and she jumped with it.

She did say the words “I don’t.” (See below.) But they weren’t a direct response to whether or not she believed the government had a role. (And she also said she hadn’t taken a position as you referenced.)

GLENN: Right. Here’s then let me be more frank and ask you the question: Do you believe the government was any way involved with the bringing down of the World Trade Centers on 9/11?

MEDINA: I don’t, I don’t have all of the evidence there, Glenn. So I don’t I’m not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all of the evidence there. So I’ve not taken a position on that.
