Sarah Palin Should Beware Of Exploiting Her Youngest Child
By Kathleen Parker February 14, 2010 A hurdle familiar to any mother is learning to view her baby as separate from herself. How many of us have answered questions about our babies in first-person plural?
-- How old is your baby?
-- Oh, we're 22 months now.
Well, no, we're not; he is. Yet we nod in universal understanding of the profound sense of oneness that evolves in part from pregnancy. For nine months, mother and baby are inextricably "we" -- linked in body and spirit, every move and morsel belonging to both.
These thoughts surfaced during Sarah Palin's latest public scolding of someone who spoke disparagingly of the special-needs population. This time, Rahm Emanuel was singled out for using the word "retarded" to describe the behavior of certain out-of-favor Democrats.
Palin's defense of people with special needs is commendable. Her obvious love for -- and pride in -- her Down syndrome child, Trig, is touching. But each time she sallies forth as Mama Bear to America's special-needs citizenry, invoking Trig's name amid demands for her children's privacy, a tiny bit of uneasiness slithers between text and subtext.
At what point do Palin's noble intentions become Trig's exploitation?
The genius of Palin's good-heartedness is that she can't easily be criticized. Her public images as Mother and Politician are so entwined that to question one is to impugn the other. Equally unprofitable is any effort to impose perspective on her condemnations lest one appear to be defending the indefensible.
This is virgin territory for politicos and pundits alike. How does one proceed?

Personally, I use the term “retarded” quite often to describe the loony left idiots, Keith Olbermann etc, but that doesn't mean I am going to go out there, and use that term to describe an actual down syndrome person or child. I think there is too much political correctness already. I agree with Rush on this one.
IIRC, Kathleen Parker used to be a conservative. I think she and Laura Ingraham are good friends. She almost seems to be pulling a Peggy Noonan.

Finally, What Sarah wants to do - short video part of "Part-3" below

Other videos: This is the 30 minute interview with Chris Wallace from Fox (2-7-10), in 3 parts:
I believe that Trig’s Mother and Father know what is best for him and will see to his well being.
Nuf sed!
i thought FR was a kathleen parker free zone...
Michelle Obama uses her kids as an example of fat kids. She had to change their diets to get them at normal weight. The only ‘picking’ has been on Michelle for embarrassing her girls.
And how many children does Kathleen Parker have?
Strange, when the Lefties were exploiting Christopher Reeve to push for fetal stem cell research, it was called being sensitive to the needs of a human being. When Michael J. Fox et al began pushing his Parkinson’s Disease, it was called being sensitive to the needs of a human being. Intersting what brain damage comes to a liberal Democrat.
Only in the Post, the only news that prints to fit.
Me too, though I was actually much more appalled by her exploitation of Bristol. Parading her visibly pregnant teenage daughter across the stage at a nationally (and globally, in clips) televised political event, along with her scummy boyfriend, while telling the media they're in love and planning to get married, when that was obviously not true and just being said for political spin, was beyond disgusting, and did long-term harm to Bristol.
Sarah was most offended by the way the comment was delivered. There was nothing playful about it; it was meant to be offensive to the people at whom Rahm Emmanuel hurled it, thus his use of the expletive with the insult, “retard”. THAT why Sarah was contrasting Rahm’s delivery, versus the way Rush Limbaugh might say it.
"As weve seen and heard more from John McCains running mate, it is increasingly clear that Palin is a problem."

This Parker “b_tch”, sure has it out for Sarah. She’s sure down on all fours for Romney.
Sarah Palin would have been slammed for 'hiding her daughter', if Bristol hadn't joined them, and she got slammed for 'exploiting her' for letting her join them on the campaign trail. It was a damned if you do, and damned if you don't situation. I suspect Bristol WANTED to be out there. What an exciting opportunity to travel the country, that she never dreamed she would ever have. Why would she not want to take advantage of that?
BS. The ONLY source for that claim was Sarah Palin, who was scrambling to maintain her image as a “family values” candidate. There’s no evidence whatsoever that Bristol and Levi ever had intention of getting married.
Bristol was 17 and had screwed up badly, and shouldn’t have been allowed to appear on stage at the convention even if she wanted to (which I doubt she did).
Excellent! Great rebuttal. Thanks.
Team Romney is pulling out all the stops
in their attacks on Gov. Palin.
Shame on them.
