Faced with his toughest re-election battle ever, John McCain has moved to the right on several hot-button issues, like gays in the military and climate change, and has built a campaign war chest of more than $5 million.
Defeated just two years ago as the Republican presidential candidate and with his bonafides as a true conservative again being challenged, John McCain finds himself in a struggle to get even his party's nomination for another term in the Senate.
Many conservatives and Tea Party activists are lining up behind Republican challenger and former talk radio host J.D. Hayworth, reflecting a rising tide of voter frustration with incumbent politicians. Only 40 percent of Arizonans have a favorable view of McCain's job performance.

[According to] Rob Haney, chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Committee covering the Phoenix area ... "We cannot depend on that man to be a conservative."
McCain faces growing frustration at home. A poll last month by the Phoenix-based Behavior Research Center found his lowest approval rating since January 1994, when McCain was in the midst of the "Keating Five" scandal in which he and four other senators were accused of trying to intimidate regulators on behalf of a real-estate developer later convicted of fraud.
McCain's once-powerful support from independents is particularly lacking; just 38 percent approved of his performance.

I have just seen the light and become more even conservative than Jim Thompson
lol.
McCain should put that train-wreck of a daughter of his in witness protection for the duration. While he is at it he should put a muzzle on Mrs. Budweiser too.
Smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors, surely you dont think that if he gets re-elected that he would hold true with any of the campaign rhetoric, do you? If the voters of Arizona make the mistake of re-electing this old RINO, then I have no sympathy for them when he reverts to business as usual.
I'm tired of this.
[I wish Hayworth well, but incumbency is difficult to beat. Maybe this year there is enough dissatisfaction with incumbency to clean out the House and Senate. Hopefully.]
Why not enjoy a few years in retirement? Enjoy life. Enjoy his whiney little daughter, and his bleached out rich wife. Oh, I see, it IS about power. M-kay.
Waaaay too late for the media-loving “Maverick”.
He was unreliable when it counted in Congress.
He's just put on a different mask for the moment. Don't expect it to stick.
Exactly. The damn fool has 12 or 14 years on me and I can’t wait to call myself retired. What is it with some people anyway? Just get out!!
Mr shifty
Let them laugh at the “leaderless and ineffectual” Tea Party Movement. Its working better than if it were planned. That’s because it is a populist (and leaderless) movement whose focus is not a person but an idea ... the Restoration and Protection of the Constitution. This shows the “idea” is more powerful than “the man.”
He ran a HORRIBLE Presidential campaign. Letting PALIN be ‘muzzled’. “Stopping” his Presidential Campaign to attend a WH MEETING on the BAILOUT - only to SUPPORT THE BAILOUT - against the wishes of the majority of the country!
IT’S OVER MCCAIN! GO AND GET ANOTHER JOB!
McCAin’s latest legislative nonsense! (NOT moving to the right!)
Disappointing McCain push to ban supplements & herbs

[snip]Once again herbalists, health food consumers, and those who wish an alternate choice for their own healthcare decisions are under fire. It seems John McCain of all people wants to ban supplements and herbs from health food stores and in commercial establishments.
This is an extreme disappointment. John McCain had stood by the Conservative base in opposing all things Obama, but this seems to be a huge jump on the Obama bandwagon that is limping along to take our health freedoms away. Maybe its time for McCain to retire? Please contact your reps to oppose this.
Anyone opposing such a measure has no idea who uses alternative medicine. It is lifegiving for many groups: those who have chemical sensitivities to AMA drugs; those who have multi-chemical sensitive allergies to our environments; those who have been hurt by taking a rushed-to-market bad drug; children; animals; the elderly who are so adversely affected by over-medicating; those who have worked in the drug companies and know the junk they put in these drugs; those who have addictions and wish to never take a drug again; and those of us who know the dangers of chemicals and wish/choose for a better, healthier lifestyle in a free country.

In PA we call that “pulling a Specter”
I worked as a volunteer for the McCain campaign: put up signs, contributed money, made phone calls(what a joke: half of them were no longer on this earth)and even went door to door with literature(risking losing limbs to rabid Lib dogs). The only memmorable event was when I had a large, fun filled Sarah Palin debate watching party at my home.
I now realize that a waste of time it was to invest any of my time, energy or funds in RINO candidate who was disorganized and unwilling to do what was necessary to win, including dissing Obama for his radical friends.
I will never again support a candidate who is not a hard core Conservative. Oh and I just sent a check to JD. Anyone else?
It is impossible to trust McCain when it comes to conservative issues. You can never be certain where he stands, or what he will do. He loves being praised by the liberal elite media as a maverick, but I don’t want a maverick. I want a conservative that I can depend upon.
