KNOXVILLE - The gunshots that nearly killed Inskip Elementary School's principal and assistant principal came from a pistol bought last month at a local gun show, according to court records revealed today.
Mark Stephen Foster, 48, fired at least five shots from the .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver Wednesday at Principal Elisa Luna and Assistant Principal Amy Brace after learning he wouldn't have a job next year, officers wrote in search warrants for his car and his home in Anderson County.

Anybody else notice an upping of “bad gun” stories from the AP very recently? ... I wonder if things’ll get stirred up enough that the politicians will get involved. (Like they did for TARP, the post 9/11 airlines, etc.)

A citizen can sell a privately owed gun to anothe rcitizen at a gunsho without background check ... just like if the sale was made in a parking lot the week before the gun show! There is no ‘gun show’ loophole. If you buy at a gunshow, from a dealer or someone with a booth, you get a background check.

Beat me to it. Here it comes, ‘’shut the gun show down’’ legislation.

“just like if the sale was made in a parking lot the week before the gun show!”
Exactly right! Or just like if the sale was made in my driveway, or my neighbors living room. It is NOT a gun show loophole. But try telling that to the gun grabbers.

It seems lately that Knoxville is turning into another Detroit. Maybe it’s not the gun’s fault, you think?

Tennessee already has pending legislation to ban the private sale of all firearms and ammo.*HB 2422 by *Hardaway. (SB 3377 by *Marrero B.)
Firearms and Ammunition - As introduced, creates various gun show offenses, including prohibiting any person who is not a licensed firearms dealer from transferring a firearm to another person if any part of the transfer takes place at a gun show or within 1,000 feet of a gun show. - Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17.

There have been a ton of "guncrime surge" stories lately. In a country of 300,000,000 people, there are going to be gun crimes, sex crimes, knife crimes, white collar crimes, blue collar crimes, etc. It's a fact of life. But the press is taking local stories about guns and turning them into national stories to give the appearance of an epidemic. It's like a few years ago when shark attacks were down to record levels, but it was nationally cool to broadcast every shark attack worldwide for ratings; it gave the impression that sharks were killing humans at record levels.
I could have sold anybody I want any number of my guns, so closing the "gunshow loophole" would have done nothing to prevent criminals from having a gun. In fact, drugs that are illegal flood across the border along with guns and illegal aliens at a pace that no governmental intrusion could ever hope to stop. That's why it is not only your right - but your duty - as a law-abiding "good guy" to pack one yourself.

I’m attending a Gunshow tomorrow. I think I’ll ask a few of the dealers to explain ‘the gun show loophole’ to me. ... Wonder if they’d let me tape their responses? LOL

With my CCP, I can buy and carry it immediately ... but you cannot have a loaded weapon at the show. But then so can anyone else who passes a background on the spot carry their purchase away from the booth.

I live in CA,i will never have a CCP and when you buy a gun you have to wait 10 days before you can take possession of it.. I had the same problem when I lived in CA. Moving to Idaho solved the problem. The initial CWP will take you 90 days and $56 and a set of fingerprints. Renewals get a reminder 30 days before expiration. Pay your fee and wait a couple weeks. Pick up the validated app and get the renewal at the courthouse. A CWP gets copied onto the Form 4473 and you can leave with your purchase immediately. If you want Class III, you'll have to get the sheriff to sign off, pay your $200 to the ATF and the big $$$ for your purchase. At current ammo prices, a Class III device can put a big hole in your budget.
