HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Police said a female member of the UA-Huntsville staff shot and killed three co-workers on campus.
Huntsville Police, Madison County Sheriff's department and HEMSI responded to a shooting at the UAH campus at 4:00 Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened in the Shelby Center, a math and science classroom building.
Authorities said a female faculty member during a Biology faculty meeting learned she would not receive tenure. She then pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Somehow, its gotta be the old man's fault.
Where I work the word tenure is usually used in a joke or a humorous suggestion.
If the photo of the person in handcuffs, wearing the green sweater and high heels is her husband — well, that’s a story onto itself.
She brought a gun with her-perhaps they were on the right track denying her tenure..
But, if she had a right to carry, then it shouldn't be a problem. Can you confirm it one way or the other. I would like to know (in terms of the "carry"). See Post #18
So sorry for your loss-——that must have been brutal for you and the family.
No names have been released. All the dead were faculty members (presumably from the Biology dept.) the others wounded - 2 were faculty and one a University employee. No students were injured or killed.
Even if state law allows them to carry on campus, I strongly suspect university rules prohibit it.
Thank you.
I’m with the UK’s Thatcher crowd. Any employee should have to maintain status with performance, period.
That comes pretty close to being an ad hominem attack, there, FRiend... :-(
But...but...guns are banned from campus. She couldn’t possibly have a gun in a gun-free zone. That would be against the law. It’s a good thing the law-abiding citizens weren’t carrying guns on campus, or they might have stood a fighting chance. Can’t have anybody using those evil guns to protect their own lives. Thank God our elected officials are wise enough to know that gun-free zones are the best way to protect the innocent. What with guns being so bad and all.
You call it what you want...I call tenure a fraud, that could only exist in government or government schools, that allow people to keep their jobs for life if desired, regardless of their performance....I dunno...it sure seems like another lottery style entitlement/benefit for government employees to me.
Here in Colorado, there is a big fight on campuses to allow students to carry weapons. After all, everybody on campus are adults or have their parents with them.
What kind of effect do you think this kind of case would have in Colorado (since it's on the news). How do you think they would see this kind of thing (here in this article) in terms of that discussion y'all are having? See Post #18
I am wondering the same thing... do you think they just arrested the woman in green until they identified Dr. Bishop? I have searched but cannot find a photo (online) of her husband Jim Anderson....
Every school I’ve ever heard of, it’s six years to get tenure. Two 3 year appointments, then it’s either tenure or out the door.
I haven’t seen any victims names yet.
I have some friends who work there.
I hope they're all okay. Let us know. Also..., can you confirm what this other FReeper said in terms of the right to carry there? See Post #18
Thank you for the update. I’m monitoring www.al.com and they’re not saying anything either.
Prayers up for all.
I agree. And the sooner the better.
