A Republican gubernatorial candidate said Thursday she has questions about whether the U.S. government was involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks a statement she swiftly backed away from and one that drew immediate criticism from her better-known rivals in the race.
Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison dismissed the comments made by Debra Medina on the Glenn Beck Show that there were "some very good arguments" that the U.S. was involved in bringing down the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
"I don't have all of the evidence there, Glenn," Medina said. "I think some very good questions have been raised. In that regard there's some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there."
Medina later released a statement saying she did not believe the government was involved in the attacks.
"There is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11," Medina said in the written statement. "I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way."

How could she not have all the evidence by now. Its been over 8 years.
The media is REALLY twisting this around.
I'm sorry, but "no comment" will not cut it. "No Comment" means she would entertain the possibility that Charlie Sheen and Rosie O'Donnell may be right. The default answer should be that the U.S. had nothing to do with the 9-11 attacks, other than allowing terrorists easy entry into the country. Unless she has evidence to the contrary, it is foolish and insane to even entertain the notion that the U.S. was involved.
I was really seriously considering voting for Medina, but now she is looking like another Ron Paul moonbat. Even if she is strong on other issues, I could never vote for a moonbat.
werent there some people on FR rooting for Medina claiming she was the most conservative?
Makes NO difference now. She has given the Democrats enough ammo to sink her if she were to make it past the primaries.
Look what they did with Sarah Palin's palm notes. Then imagine what they can/will do with this high-grade ammunition.
It occurs to me that all the "pundants" and most people here SEEM to be for changing congress...voting the bastards out, so to speak. If we disqualify Ms. Medina for one stupid statement, then we in Texas are stuck with only establishment candidates are we not? There is no hope of changing the "status quo". It actually appears that some of the talk show hosts are actively working against her, and dismissing that she actually may have "misspoke".
As a qualified voter of the State of Texas, I am sticking with Debra Medina in the primaries, and if she loses, I will reluctantly support a RINO for governor....because I have to.....since there is no real conservative in the race since everybody thinks she is "toast" because of a supid mistake..
Come on folks....Ms Medina is not like Van Jones....Van Jones is a certifiable nut, an admitted Communist, and an on the record "truther"....
Now really. To not comment is the same as admitting you think it is at least possible that the US was behind the attack.
No... to not comment on a horrific act of terrorism that struck our nation back in 2001 merely recognizes that it is a non-issue in the 2010 Texas GOP gubernatorial primary...
And the only 'tards who want to make it an issue are the Texas GOP/RPT elite who wish to disparage, sidetrack, derail and otherwise squelch any true grassroots dissent...
Oh where, oh where have we all seen this Country Club RINO disdain for conservative populist candidates before???

That was my impression as well. Apparently, she's not adept yet at the political non-answer answers.
I still like her. So far, the only strike against her is lack of experience.
Suicide-by-interview.
Good thing she was outed before she had the opportunity to do any damage to Texas, the GOP or the Tea Party movement.
Good riddance.

“She was trying to make a no comment statement, saying that she didnt have all the evidence to even make a statement on the facts.”
Even if true, how does that make it better? She’s leaving the door open to the idea that 9/11 was done by the US Govt.
I've seen plenty of freepers use the term "truther" when they actually meant, "Birther" -- so it's not outside the realm of possibility that maybe she didn't want to comment because she had NO idea what Kook Beck was asking her about?
>> I heard her actual quote... she did NOT say that she blames the US government. She was trying to make a no comment statement, saying that she didnt have all the evidence to even make a statement on the facts.
She was directly asked “Do you think the US Government was involved in bringing down the WTC?” ... and her fundamental answer was “I’m keeping an open mind.”
That’s not twisting — that’s a fact. The fact that she has an open mind about the subject is, itself, disqualifying. It is entirely possible that she believes that 9-11 was an inside job, and that was her way of trying to wriggle out without answering.
If she didn’t believe 9-11 was an inside job, she would’ve just said “No”.
SnakeDoc
>> Is it possible that she didn’t know what a “truther” is?
The question that was directly asked was “Do you believe the U.S. Government was involved in bringing down the World Trade Center?” Her answer was “I’m keeping an open mind.”
The word “truther” was NOT used in that question. And, if she had thought Beck was talking about “birthers” before that question, she would’ve realized it at that time, and said “Dear lord, no. Sorry, I thought we were talking about something else.”
She understood the question.
SnakeDoc
I heard her actual quote too ... she clearly believes it to be in the realm of possibilities that the US Government, at the very least, "let it happen".
I don't think she is a Communist. The rest, yes.
>> Ms Medina is not like Van Jones....Van Jones is a certifiable nut, an admitted Communist, and an on the record “truther”...
I do not believe she is a communist. I now believe she is a closet truther (I really do think her answer was an attempt to sanitize her views for public consumption) and a “certifiable nut”. She’s close enough to Van Jones to lose my vote permanently and irrevocably.
SnakeDoc
Having worked on Ron Paul's 2008 campaign and living on planet Earth my guess would be no.
I've seen plenty of freepers use the term "truther" when they actually meant, "Birther"
Please present "plenty" of citations.
Willie, you are putting out more whine than Gallo...
Good.
The GOP Establishment Powers That Be are attempting to squelch grass root influences again.
I hope my whining about it helps to force lowbrow pseudo-journalists like Glen Beck to be more honest. We don't need our own grassroot candidates being sandbagged by supposedly conservative media pundits using the same sleazy tactics as the libtard media. All that does is maintain the Republicrat status-quo stranglehold on goverment.
“werent there some people on FR rooting for Medina claiming she was the most conservative?”
—Sure. And I would not be ashamed to have been one of her supporters. I question only the ones who still are.
The media is REALLY twisting this around.
Bull. You can't "no comment" on "was the government behind 9/11." You answer it basically the same way you answer the question "did the holocaust really happen?" - you treat it as the moonbattery that it is. "I don't have all the evidence" and "there are a lot of good arguments" are disqualifying answers to that question, and rightfully so.
