Interview with Sarah Palin (Palin *NOT* for Amnesty)
Univision ^ | October 26, 2008 | Univision

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Palin: we need to close the borders. They are called illegal aliens for a reason and if they are not going to follow the rules they should not be in our country.

It’s pretty simple I ratched that one down to the simple answer because its an easier answer than some politicians want it to make it be. you close the borders. You get more agressive about cracking down on the illegal aliens and we take it serious what our border patrol officers are trying to do

December 2009
Lars Larson radio talk show

LARS: The amnesty proposal that was defeated in Congress — in your view, was that amnesty for illegals and would you back amnesty for a path to citizenship, as the current president calls it?

SARAH PALIN: No, I’m not for amnesty. Let’s ratchet this down quite simply to remember what we’re referring to. Illegal aliens are called “illegal” for a reason. We need to secure our borders and I am not for amnesty.

And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if they’re not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.

Where in that statement did Governor Palin say she opposed Deportation? You are taking a big leap here with your “doublespeak” comment.

She said you can't just “roundup every illegal alien”. That is a fact, not an opinion.

You deport those who get caught breaking the law. You make sure Employer's verify S.S. Numbers before hiring someone. You make sure that Government Benefits are not given to Illegal Aliens. The Illegals will self deport if those things are done.

One other thing. Denying Emergency Medical Treatment to Illegal Aliens would be seen as inhumane and the majority of Public Sentiment would not support it.

That is the reality we face today because we did not to stem the tide in the past. Ronald Reagan gave Illegals Amnesty, thinking the problem would be solved. Obviously, it only made it worse.

"What potential GOP Presidential hopeful has a plan to round up illegals and ship them back? I’m curious, I’d like to read their proposal."

Sadly, most avoid this like they avoid Social Security insolvency.

But, the fact of the matter is you don't have to "round up" anyone. You just need to pass legislation making it a crime, or a significant civil fine, for hiring illegal aliens - one alien or one thousand aliens. Once that's passed, and vigorously enforced, the illegals will return home.

You would also pass legislation that would demand that local law enforcement verify the citizenship of people it arrests, and compel them to turn those arrested - for whatever reason - to ICE for immediate deportation.

We have too many politicians who describe themselves as conservative who won't take the tough stand on immigration for fear of losing another minority group. If amnesty - in any form - passes, Republicans will be out of power for generations to come.

My tagline is a direct quote from Governor Palin. Is that something that someone who is for amnesty would say? I think not!!

You should be zotted for this thread.

For posting her own words? That shows your lack of credibility in future posts and your intellectual dishonesty. I'm just for pure small-government conservatism and nothing less. I don't put my faith in nobody that has said the things she said in this interview. Sorry to burst your Palin-bubble.

Yes because she’s changed her stance since then. How many times and how many quotes do you need?

EVERY post is an excerpt...The whole interview is included with the link and you can read in her own words what she said. Like I said, don't lie to yourself or others, simply read it and decide.

Your thread is named, 'Palin for Amnesty,' yet you failed to include the critical excerpt that quashes the entire premise of your thread?

Very convenient. Your agenda is showing.

I don’t know, and I don’t care. The rule of law and our nation’s sovereignty is priceless. Do whatever it takes.

What can I say. It's never going to happen and you aren't going to change your position. But I hope you realize that the rule of law demands that every one of them gets their day in court. They aren't terrorists and in America you have rights and one of those rights is a presumption of innocence. hence their day in court.

Such is life.

I don’t have any. The GOP doesn’t have room for those kind of candidates any more.

I thought the other poster had a good question: do you know of a candidate who has said he or she is absolutely 100% going to institute a program to round up every illegal alien in this country and outline a process with funding to ship them back to every country from which they came?

I ask this seriously, because it is something I may have missed, and if a candidate has advocated this, I would be willing to examine their stands on other issues as well to see where they stand.

Not if it’s conditional on application for citizenship.

That's exactly the type of process amnesty advocates support! Palin is trying to parse words.

People have tried to answer, but you won't listen, nor does it appear you care to. You seem to have your mind made up.

You're quoting an interview done when she was McCain's VP candidate in 2008. Her answer was following his positions, which was her job to do.

Since then, she's given numerous interviews where she makes it clear she does not support McCain's 2008 campaign points, and she says multiple times she is against illegal immigration. I've heard them, people have quoted them on this thread, and you could find them if you cared to.

But you don't, you just want to misrepresent what her position is.

Thank you. I still have some concerns about finessing the issue, but that’s a very encouraging response from her. Your post is infinitely more useful than all the people who simply scream in response, “She said she’s not for amnesty!... Everyone is just trying to bring her down... rant rant rave rave.”

I like Palin. She has the power to disappoint me because I have hope for her, unlike Romney, McCain, etc. But the mad dash to anoint her without scrutinizing her positions is downright scary. I don’t want a Republican Obama. Nor do I want a repeat of Jorge “I destroyed capitalism to save it” Bush. Not that I otherwise would think she was one, but your quote is comforting, nonetheless.

Oh I agree with all you’ve posted. However, short of deporting all of them, a common sense approach like this is amnesty.

I don’t think there is a single major political figure who supports deportation. If you know one I’d be interested.

I wonder what those "code words" mean?

EXACTLY!
Saying that you have to go through classes, have no criminal record, have employment, and go through the regular citizenship process is not the same as “blanket amnesty” at all.

One more thing:

It is entirely reasonable for citizenship to be granted to any US Service man or woman, and even grant citizenship to the family of such veterans, upon honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces, or upon a reasonable length of time, in uniform.

Meant to say 'for some, short of deporting all,' your ideas are amnesty.

Total deportation is the only answer for some.
