Five-term Democratic Rep. Diane Watson will retire at the end of this term, Fox News has learned.
The 76-year-old California congresswoman represents parts of Los Angeles County and the city of Los Angeles and is known as a loyal Democrat. In a 2006 evaluation of voting records, National Journal ranked her as the most liberal member in Congress. President Obama won her district by 32 points in the 2008 election.
Watson becomes the 12th House Democrat to announce his or her retirement. Seventeen Republicans have decided against seeking re-election, including Rep. Vern Ehlers, R-Mich., who announced his decision earlier Wednesday.
More than 80 percent of registered voters in Watson's district are Democrats, and political handicappers would expect the seat to remain in Democratic hands this fall.
Watson is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. She served as a "superdelegate" for Hillary Clinton going into the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, following the current secretary of state's unsuccessful presidential run.
Before entering politics, Watson worked as a elementary school teacher and a school psychologist. Even though her district includes the University of Southern California, Watson earned her undergraduate degree from arch-rival UCLA and her doctorate in education at Claremont Graduate School.
She was the first black woman ever elected to the Los Angeles School Unified Board and later served in the California State Senate.

Since on average of about 95% of House incumbents are reelected each cycle, we are approaching that already.
GOOD Worthless, Marxist BITCH!
The rats are leaving the sinking ship!
If they are termed liberal, RINO, or “progressive”, they ought not be voted out.
They ought be hung or burned at a stake, or (my favorite) keel hauled.
Make an example to those who would ruin our country with marxism or socilism.
(my favorite) keel hauled.
Sweeeeet!
Now Diane you can move to Cuba to be with your hero Castro. I suspect your congressional pension will go far living there.
My sailboats hull is clean.
Gots to find an old boat that hasn’t been treated too well.
One with lots of barnicles.
I wonder if Watson will be replaced by an Hispanic/Latino.
Just out of curiousity...
I realize that this district has a strong history of voting for democrats.
Any chance we could sneak a republican or better yet, a conservative into this office?
I hate to rely on race, but according to wiki, the district is 20% White, 30% Black, 12% Asian, 35% Hispanic.
I’m thinking that we need to find a young, good looking, bi-lingual Latina-American conservative to run!!!
The writing on the wall for the dimocrats?
12 Dems, 17 Pubs. Which rats, which ship? The question is how many of these will flip?

Please, please, please take your idiot friend from the Congressional Black Carcass with you.
I wonder if Watson will be replaced by an Hispanic/Latino
*******
One hopes the replacement will be a ‘wise’ latina.
as far as I am concerned I would support Felton Newell over
Karen Bass in the primary ... need more details about Newell.
Hope somebody else jumps in. the hispanic vote is
up for grabs.
Karen Bass, candidate for CA-33: We are delighted with
todays State Supreme Court ruling allowing marriage
equality in California. It is a true testament to advancing
equality and to recognizing the right of all Californians
to build a future with the person they love. We recently
lost Mildred Loving, the woman whose marriage to a man of
another race ushered in the Supreme Court ruling that made
marriage colorblind. Todays ruling is another important
reminder that love will overcome.

The primary is in June. It could be a wasted opportunity
again. This guy ? ... but hes not running as the total
loon Castro-supporting lefty.
Karen Bass, communist (NEA, NARAL, pro-gal, NOW)

Felton Newell, prosecutor

hard to believe Judy Chu, communist D-32 has no
opponent in primary and in general.
YESSSSS!!!!!
DJ, so many people on this sight are totally clueless! totally!
She saw that she was going to lose the primary to Newell, somebody who is not a total leftist. So she dropped out to turn the reigns over to Karen Bass, commie progressive leader. There is nothing to celebrate here.
Especially since no national group or California group will make any attempt to assist Newell against the new commieGal.

DJ, am I wasting my breath?
Well, some are. I think a big problem, as I face, is having to follow so many races, candidates, and the like, and often simply not having enough information to make intelligent choices. I was looking at the TX Governor’s race, and a lot of FReepers were excited about Debra Medina (if only because she wasn’t Rick Perry or Kay Bailey Hutchison). I warned folks Medina was not only thoroughly unqualified for the job, but that she was a Paulbot. She apparently was rising in the polls, eclipsing KBH, but just self-destructed in a Glenn Beck interview, exposing herself as a 9/11 Truther, a trait amongst the Paulbots.
With respect to the race you’re talking about, we tend to face a dilemma. Do we support, in a hopelessly Democrat district, a “slightly more reasonable” liberal or a moonbat ? I tend to be of the opinion, let the district, if it must be Dem, send their worst. The scarier and more divisive they are, the better they make us look. They scare the straights elsewhere into voting Republican. Look at the Cynthia McKinney example in GA. Besides her, there have been 2 other Black Dems that defeated her, each was almost just as liberal as her, but not as personally divisive. Those two won’t yield the kind of results that McKinney would. So for all the folks that think it is important to run out divisive “fill-in-the-blank” Dem member who will only be succeeded by another lesser-known figure in a heavily Dem district, I don’t really consider it a positive.
