Texas Monthly: Watch out for Medina! She could win
Texas Monthly ^ | 10th Feb | Paul Burka

Posted on 02/10/2010 9:20:20 AM PST by takecontrol

I have been telling friends for a couple of weeks now that if Medina can raise $2 million by February 16 (the start of early voting), she will be governor. What this poll tells me is that Texans are sick and tired of Rick Perry and Kay Bailey Hutchison and their career politician credentials and their negative campaigns. Medina is Sarah Palin with gravitas and without the winks.

Probably. But I don’t think she’ll win.

I quit taking and reading TM years ago as it had become so liberal.

I’m thinking their purpose in this article is to try to have Medina as the Dims competition (White) because they think it would make it easier for White to win the election. I have doubts that any dim can win the governor’s spot in Texas—but one never knows.......

One thing about it: this is going to be a very interesting election—and yes, I’m still backing Medina.

I think you over estimate the ramifications of endorsements. I would hardly consider a vote for JD or Medina as a repudiation of Palin, nor would I consider a vote for McCain or Perry an endorsement of Palin.

I hope McCain gets STOMPPED BY JD and it doesn’t bother me that Palin endorses him.
I would much Prefer Perry over KBH and don’t know anything about Medina.

I suspect you don’t want Palin to run so you are hoping this will be a repudiation of Palin. It won’t…

...buddies from the governor's association

...and she "owes" her endorsement to McCain, too, eh?

“Medina is Sarah Palin with gravitas and without the winks.”
No need for that snarky little put-down of Palin. He’s not helping Medina with comments like that.

I second that, a stupid way to try and get Palin supporters on your side...

“Medina is Sarah Palin with gravitas”

What is her gravitas besides a few opinions? She ever run anything? Im amazed anyone could compare her to Sarah and have her come out ahead.

I guess I'm ambivalent about Median. I keep hearing on FR that she's a pro-amnesty crackpot, but that could simply be Perry-bots. However, in the debate, I thought she came off like a real conservative while Perry and KBH looked like the career fat-cats they are.

Also, do not assume that the name Medina means and automatic win in a heavily Hispanic state. Hispanics in Texas tend to vote 'rat, regardless of the last name. I will be voting for whichever person with an R in their name gets the nomination. I'm just not sure if I am going all out for Medina yet.

Forget Medina. You have to support the establishment candidates. They have been party approved!!!

(YES it is sarcasm)

the polls show her beating the rat very easily, which is no mean feat. She needs to become better known but if she makes the run off there is enough time

Medina is Sarah Palin with gravitas and without the winks.

Not really. Sarah Palin is a conservative. Medina is a libertarian. There is a pretty big difference.

Medina is pandering to the Hispanics for the vote. She has also energized the most bizarre of the Ron Paul accolytes and she herself has been one.

That, coupled with her complete lack of any experience that would lend value to the office of Governor is why she will not get my vote.

“when she sued the RNC in 2008 to try to block seating of delegates because Ron Paul lost”

I was there, of course (and probably will be in Dallas). The precise reason for the suit was that the party convention schedule did not elect the permanent chair until the second day; and the resolution of disputed delegates occurred on the first day. It would be more proper to elect the permanent chair first so that the dispute resolution committee could be appointed by a permanent chair.

Frankly, I did not care about when the permanent chair was elected because I have been involved with the immense amount of personal time (and lack of sleep, and not seeing my kids awake, and lack of recognition) that we put in to running just the March district conventions. I can not imagine the amount of volunteer time that goes into planning the state convention. Seriously, with 10,000 people, actual debate about anything is not practical. My goal at the state convention is to meet old friends, have a good time, and elect a non-RINO SREC rep.

there are polls in a country on that blog showing her in 2nd place ahead of KBH. I really do think she’s going to make the run off at least. I expect a low turnout and that will help her because her supporters will show up more. who is motivated enough to vote for KBH?

Excuse me? Did I say I HOPE the news reports a Medina win as a repudiation of Sarah Palin? Don’t you realize that the lib media will use anything possible to attack Sarah? I was expressing a fear, not a hope.

“With that last name, all she has to do in Texas is win the primary”

We wish. Hispanics tend to vote party line. For example, many of us remember the Orlando Sanchez run for Houston mayor many years back. He lost.

I infer from your question you believe that only people who have been previously elected to public office can serve as governor, I disagree. But I agree with major parts of her platform, smaller government, eliminate property tax, protect gun ownership, secure the border, restore state sovereignty. She has been campaigning like a trooper. She is a registered nurse, not a lawyer. She founded and has been running a small business (knows what it means to meet a payroll). She home schooled her kids. She is a NORMAL PERSON.
Also: the other two in the race.
