Sen. Kit Bond (R-Mo.) called for the removal of the White House's top counterterrorism official Tuesday, intensifying Republican criticism of the administration's handling of the attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day.
Bond said John Brennan, a special assistant to the president for counterterrorism, needs to resign because of the politcal role he has played.
Brennan "needs to go," Bond told the National Review Online, a position spokeswoman Shana Marchio confirmed.
"Our problem now is that we have to wonder whether we can trust Brennan after he has been a mouthpiece for the political arm that I thought only came out of the White House press office," Bond said. "Instead of having real debates on our nation's terror-fighting policies, the national security team has become a bench of political spokespeople."
Bond has accused the administration of negligence for reading the suspected underwear bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, his Miranda rights after less than an hour of questioning. Bond's call for Brennan's resignation comes in the wake of a USA Today op-ed Brennan published Tuesday accusing Republicans of jeopardizing national security with political attacks.
Bond's criticism is directed at a background briefing the administration held for reporters that revealed Abdulmutallab was again providing intelligence to federal investigatorsa move designed to thwart Republican attacks accusing the White House of sacrificing valuable intelligence in favor of a fair

Like Obama, it is a perversion of the kind of ethical behavior one would expect from an administration.
Hoekstra also on board with this, says Brennan lied about briefing top GOP leaders on Christmas Day?
Brennan will not be “fired”- his contractors breached State Department and did the cleanup work on Barry’s (and family’s?) passport records
OMG, it actually appears some Republicans have regained their vertebrae again ... let’s hope it stays this way.
BINGO!
Podesta had pegged Brennan for Panettas position ...

Obama Taps CIA Veteran As Adviser On Terror - Brennan Has Drawn Fire on Interrogations
Washington Post, The (DC) - Friday, January 9, 2009
Author: R. Jeffrey Smith, Washington Post Staff Writer
Barack Obama has picked John O. Brennan as his top adviser on counterterrorism, a role that will give the CIA veteran a powerful voice on the governments use of security contractors and on other sensitive issues in which he recently has played a private-sector role.
By appointing Brennan to a senior White House position not subject to Senate approval, Obama is also making him an influential adviser on the Middle East and on Iran, a topic on which Brennan has called for a sharp break with past U.S. policy.
The president-elects decision comes only six weeks after Brennan was forced to pull out of contention for the directorship of the CIA because of fears that his statements supporting some controversial interrogation techniques would have complicated his confirmation.
The firm Brennan heads, the Analysis Corp., and its corporate parent have earned millions of dollars over the past decade assisting several federal agencies and private firms on counterterrorism. Those oil and telecommunications firms have worked in countries beset by violence, including Mozambique, Liberia, Colombia and Pakistan all of which have been topics of intense policy debate in Washington.
