C. Hayes WGNTV NEWS February 10, 2010
A magnitude 4.3 earthquake hit northern Illinois early Wednesday morning.
The quake struck at 3:59 a.m. in Sycamore in DeKalb County. The quake could be felt as far away as Chicago... 50 miles from the epicenter.
We'll have more information as it becomes available.
For the latest information, go to the U.S. Geological Survey website.

Any connection to New Madrid?
Hope my Illinois friends are okay.
FOFL! Better luck next time.
Bump that! I recall there was a 5 point something quake just after we moved to LaGrange. Our daughter was just a baby, probably 24 or so years ago.
Thanks for checking in on the thread with your reports, all you IL FReepers.
My advice to Obama would be to immediately cease trying to divide Israel and see if the weird weather doesn’t ease up a bit.
Didn’t feel anything in Rockford, about thirty miles away. Then again, I was sleeping at the time.
Maybe Chicago will break off and slip into Lake Michigan?
(:o)
I grew up next door in Mt. Prospect. Prospect High, class of'78.
Whatever this was, it did not record like a normal earthquake.

Similar thinking. I wonder what decisions may have been made in the last 24 hrs related to Israel within the US.
Waht is with the picture? IS that him crying with his father or Scott Lee’s kid crying?
This may just be a Scott Brown aftershock or maybe Blago actually started talking to Fitzgerald about Obama.
Just spoke to my sister in DeKalb...she teaches at NIU...she said she thought she felt something, but wasn’t sure...she pretty much slept right through it. She was wondering how I knew, since it’s 5:30 here in California...I told her, “I saw it on Free Republic.”
Can you elaborate?
Great little town, isn't it? I hope the courthouse is ok. (Folks, think Everytown, U.S.A., the courthouse has a Civil War statue in front).
I saw Cohen on TV yesterday with the sobbing boy but didn’t catch what was going on. What happened?
Exactly what I was thinking, first the snowstorm, now a earthquake in Illinois.
God is not happy with the zero.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and a big one will hit Washington and bury the lot of them /s
Felt the bed shaking around 4 AM. The cat woke up, gave me a dirty look (like I caused the earth to shake?), a grumpy meow and went and hid in the closet.
I’ve been in 2 previous IL earthquakes, one when I was about 10 and I missed it because I was in a pool and the one about 2 years ago I slept through. So, at least I got to feel this one. :-D
And I felt a bit guilty for finding it an hour after it happened!
Usually, we FReepers are faster than that. heh :)
Is that the Obama Fault Line?
I didn’t feel it here (Lockport). The KY quake of 2 years (or so) ago I felt but it was a larger magnitude.
Must be all that global warming we got got this week. I’m still shoveling it.
