C. Hayes WGNTV NEWS February 10, 2010
A magnitude 4.3 earthquake hit northern Illinois early Wednesday morning.
The quake struck at 3:59 a.m. in Sycamore in DeKalb County. The quake could be felt as far away as Chicago... 50 miles from the epicenter.
We'll have more information as it becomes available.
For the latest information, go to the U.S. Geological Survey website.

You're welcome, Ernest.
Did you see any of the funnel clouds near the beach in the past few days?
A small tornado in LA gets a laugh back in the Midwest, kinda like the earthquake in Chicago got laughs in Cali.
Thanks.
You're welcome, Quix.
I was in a 7.5 in Mexico City in 1957. Was coming home from a party, started staggering, said “Jee, I only had two drinks.” My friend, from California, said “It’s an earthquake,” grabbed my hand and ran down to the middle of an intersection away from buildings and power lines. We clung to each other to keep from falling. Was like a fast moving subway ride. Back at home, one roommate said the chandelier in the living room was swingling from side to side so hard it was hitting the ceiling each time. The guy upstairs said he was knocked out of bed. We were on a third and fourth floor near Chapultapec Park.
I hope this is not a sign of an awakening of the not too distant New Madrid fault. In 1811 and 1812 there were 3 earthquakes above 8, and dozens in the 7 range. St. Louis was only a small town then. Also an 1812 earthquake in Venezuela killed 20,000.
Saw this guy on the news. How pathetic and using his kid to boot. However, no surprise for a ‘rat.
Church bells in Boston. Are you referring to the 1895 quake, or the ones in 1811-12? I know that the earlier one caused chimneys to fall in Cincinnati.
The big ones were 1811-12, see my earlier comment. Interesting tidbit. The first steamboat trip down the Missippi was being successfully attempted. THey said they never would have made it without the steam power. Sometimes the river ran backwards. Also Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee(?) was formed when a grabben fault dropped at least 20 feet.
I just replied to your FReepmail with some info. Have fun...
Jim
Glad to hear your son returned safely from Iraq.
If you get a minute, tell him that a guy in Maine thanks him for his service to the country.
LOL. I was going to say that it was the planet convulsing in shock that a Democrat would actually step down voluntarily when caught in a lie/scandal.
I emailed him re: the quake. His response:
"I was still in bed at that time, though something did wake me up... Probably would have figured it was the cat doing something terrible & gone back to sleep."
I understand.
I’m an earthquake queen from Calif.
Thank you bd476 for the info.
My new word for the day.
Thanks Godzilla.

Well, if you never learn something new every day - better check your pulse. :)
Giggling...big ditto.
Should have said 1811, 8.0.
