Daniel Rubin: Another TSA complaint close to home (locked in a cell with rats)

about Nadine Pellegrino, who learned just how powerful the government's word can be.

The businesswoman spent a night in the lockup at 55th and Pine after Transportation Security Administration agents said she assaulted them during a screening at the airport.

Pellegrino's story differs dramatically from statements TSA agents gave to police and made in court. A TSA spokesman said the agency cannot comment, because of pending litigation: Pellegrino and her husband, Harry Waldman, filed a civil rights suit against the agency in federal court in November.

In Pellegrino's view, she stepped into a Kafkaesque nightmare. In court testimony, the TSA workers said she was the nightmare.

She's a small, self-assured, and exacting woman who makes a living as a business consultant.

She used to be on the faculty at Penn State and the former Trenton State College, where she taught public speaking and semantics.

She was heading back to Boca Raton with her husband on July 29, 2006. They have a home in the Philadelphia area, where both grew up, and had been visiting family. They were to fly US Airways, upgraded to first class because of their frequent-flier status.

At security, Pellegrino, then 57, was selected for more intensive screening. She says no one explained why. When an agent plopped her bags onto a table to begin an examination, she objected, requesting a private screening, which she knew would summon a female TSA employee.

"I had some personal belongings in there," she said. "He also didn't use gloves. I get sick very quickly. I didn't want him introducing microbes in my bags."

When screener Nuyriah Abdul-Malik arrived, Pellegrino asked her to change her gloves. Inside a small room, Pellegrino got a thorough screening. The woman examined every inch of the bags, Pellegrino said, smelling lipstick, pulling out credit cards.

From here the stories diverge.

You have to wonder how diligent the TSA screened the screener, Nuyriah Abdul-Malik! My guess they did it to “government” standards. Is it me or does anyone else fear we are all doomed?

You should go to Reagan National. The majority of them belong to the ROP.

Surely they wouldn’t give their fellow Muslims a pass, would they?

Pellegrino concedes that the case still upsets her and maintains that her name has been wrongly maligned. She cannot let what happened go. She is representing herself in the federal suit. looks like this professor of semantics from the land of libs, Boca Raton, couldn't get a lawyer to take her case. Cry me a river. I hope I am on her jury.

You have a bunch of ignorant fools with chips on their shoulder and dictatorial power. You can stand up to them for your rights and spend the night in jail or act like an inmate in a Dickensian orphanage and get through. It's ridiculous America has come to this.

Does anything think we're much safer to day for this nonsense?

After the piece of manure planted the white powder on that one passenger (Story from last week), we know that all the TSA people are tainted until proven competent.

The truth is with all these incidents, the worst fear of the TSA is any of these things going to jury trial. The entire TSA employee force need to be required to be retrained, preferably in isolation. Then they should be imprisoned for any malfeasance, not just fired.

This Abdul-Malik was probably covering her butt... ('One of THOSE passengers' remark). And miraculously, the tape got destroyed, even though it was requested by the defense.

Also, from what I read in the article, it seems that the original judge is a smartass and needs to be removed from the bench. He seems to have taken the word of the TSA liar unquestioned. This lady is not a street thug. And, the TSA people reporting this were probably pulled off the street to do the screening.

Airport manager Renee Tufts said all video is destroyed after 30 days unless a court or law enforcement agency requests otherwise. Although one of Pellegrino's attorneys had asked immediately that the tape be kept, TSA attorney Lisa Eckl said her agency did not keep the tape because most of the incident took place outside the cameras' view, either in the private screening room or at the doorway.

Lisa you gotta be as dumb as a rock

“looks like this professor of semantics from the land of libs, Boca Raton, couldn’t get a lawyer to take her case. Cry me a river. I hope I am on her jury. “

Why shouldn’t she be pissed? The absurdity of having muslims search her bags to board an airline. ABSURD. Muslims should be discriminated against in security situations regarding airlines. They should not be let anywhere near an airport. TSA screens everybody. It’s like the old military maxim “if you try to defend everything you defend nothing”. If we would use intelligence (I don’t mean smarts) and profile like the Israelis do we could cut the number of TSA employees down by 2/3’s and provide better security. Fah, the sheeple want to feel safe by having very visible security checkpoints so that they can feel there money is well spent. B.S. Fools. Sheeple. Vapid uneducated cattle.

The cameras probably weren’t working.

" Her supervisor, Laura Labbee, testified that Pellegrino was "authoritative, demanding," "

That seems to have hurt someone's ego.

“That seems to have hurt someone’s ego.”

Airport security is truly there only to make the average traveler feel secure. Theres probably a minor benefit that it will deter minor criminals but certianly not the ROP.
