WH: Some Critics 'Serving the Goals of al Qaeda' February 09, 2010 7:16 AM

PrintRSSE-mailShare this blog entry with friendsFacebookTwitterRedditStumbleUponMore In an oped in USA Today, John Brennan -- Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism -- responds to critics of the Obama administration's counterterrorism policies by saying "Politically motivated criticism and unfounded fear-mongering only serve the goals of al-Qaeda."

Brennan writes that, "Terrorists are not 100-feet tall. Nor do they deserve the abject fear they seek to instill."

In the oped, titled "'We need no lectures': Administration disrupts terrorists’ plots, takes fight to them abroad," Brennan writes that politics "should never get in the way of national security. But too many in Washington are now misrepresenting the facts to score political points, instead of coming together to keep us safe."

The administration op-ed is in response to a USA Today editorial entitled "National security team fails to inspire confidence; Officials’ handling of Christmas Day attack looks like amateur hour."

Brennan provides a detailed defense of the administration's handling of failed Christmas Day bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab whom, he says, was "thoroughly interrogated and provided important information."

He suggests that many critics are hypocritical and clueless.

The most important breakthrough in the interrogation occurred "after Abdulmutallab was read his rights, which the FBI made standard policy under Michael Mukasey, President Bush's attorney general," he writes, noting that failed shoe bomber Richard Reid "was read his Miranda rights five minutes after being taken off a plane he tried to blow up. The same people who criticize the president today were silent back then."

Brennan said anyone who wants to change the policy would be casting aside lessons learned "in waging this war" on extremists.

These clowns sure are a sensitive lot. They will do or say anything to squelch criticism.

Didn’t some cable network (MSNBC), a newspaper (NY Slimes)and other news outlets back during the Bush era suggest that when Conservatives were questioning the Leftist and their views on terrorism, it was “unpatriotic?” And in their response they said it was patriotic and the right thing to do to question the Bush Adminstration and hence, the Bush White House was the second coming of Hitler because they didn’t want any disent.

No. Here’s who does the work of Alqaeda: Murtha, who calls Marines murderers. Kerry, who calls Air Force terrorists; 0bama, who declares abu graib and gitmo inhumane and enhanced interrogation torture, the House, when they passed legislation and resolutions condemning the Bush administration’s conduct of the war, etc., etc.

These pantywaists need to get over themselves and quit having their little vapors over criticisms.

It’s not that we fear the terrorist so much, its that we fear dumbsh_ts running counter terrorism ops, and setting back the gains that were made since 2001... somebody standing next to Brennon, please slap him for me.

Note.
The shoe bomber was apprehended before policies, laws and procedures were developed to deal with terrorists. It was precisely the failings in processing this terrorist that required a comprehensive institutional response. This was done through extensive research and development, not the least of which included thorough going research of war crime law.
Congress drafted and passed law, signed by the president to flesh out the details of this extensive effort aimed at insuring the ethical treatment of terrorists and compliance with US law.
All of this massive effort was thrown out the window by the Obama administration in the name of shallow ideology and anti-American sentiment.
Now they want us to believe that they are guardians of decency and the American Way. How trite.

I think the phrase you are looking for is “Dissent is Patriotic”.

It was a mantra of the Left for eight years, now flushed down the memory hole.
