ATHENS (Reuters) - Greece will lower the current 75,000 euro income threshold that is subject to a 40 percent tax rate as part of reforms to urgently boost government revenues, the country's finance minister said on Monday.
Greece's planned tax reforms are part of a deficit-reduction plan, endorsed by the European Commission, to return to fiscal health. The socialist government has said it wants to tackle widespread tax evasion and revamp the system to make it fairer.
Worries over Greece's fiscal woes have battered its bond and stock markets, driving its borrowing costs sharply higher and helping to drive the euro currency to 8-1/2 month lows against the dollar.

Yeah. Raise taxes. Sure. That’s gonna fix it.
Right. Lemme know how that works out for ya, Greece.
...Coming soon to a county NEAR you...
It’s what will likely be done here in the near future: controlling constituents ordering their government to tax its own payees (including relatives of controlling constituents, like teachers, contractors, retirees,...) more in a circular stroke of retar-...ahem, acceleration. Geniuses in the new technical expertise of economics, they are.
Some great minds over there in Greece. This is such a creative solution. (banging head on desk)
Tax the Rich
Feed the poor
Til there are no rich no more.
Liberal Tax plan in three lines.
Alvin Lee......yep; pretty well sums it up.
Bye bye Greece.
Obama and little Timmy are very busy taking notes.
A little hard left rudder should get us out of this stall...
And to think that Greece is/was considered to be the birthplace of Democracy...
In my view, these actions by Greece will do little or nothing to restore confidence there, much less anything effective to fix the economy. The basic problem of Socialism still remains, and until they move to a different societal model, they will remain in the toilet financially, and an enormous drain on the EU.
Thats the NY fix
Fools.

They aren’t raising taxes, they are making more people pay the current high taxes. All those who didn’t have to pay 40% taxes will now know what it feels like to be held at gun point by their government. Maybe next time they won’t vote for politicians who want to steal their money. Overall its a good thing for Greece.
