Alcohol Restrictions, Curfew Lifted In King
Police Chief: King Remains Under State Of Emergency Until Monday
KING, N.C. -- Authorities lifted a curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday. Authorities said the state of emergency declaration would continue until Monday 9 a.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe changes. Effective Sunday afternoon, alcohol restrictions and a curfew were lifted. All other remaining restrictions would continue until Monday, said Paula May, King police chief. Other restrictions include a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises. Also on Sunday, the emergency shelter established by the American red Cross at West Stokes High School was closed. "We appreciate the support and cooperation of everyone with our efforts to keep the citizens of King safe," May said. The state of emergency was declared Friday due to severe weather.
Look your simply mistaken. No harm no foul..
Civil rights are just that.. Rights.. not privilages revocable at the whim of anyone.. from the most powerful elected offical to a local minor functionary..
One fellow said temporary can become permanant in a flash..
He is right.. That is why we will raise heck each and every time some would be tyrant raises their ugly little head..
It may be callous but we are not more concerned with the comfort or peace of mind of those working for US as Emergency Responders than we are concerned about the rights of the collective body of the people.
Our first job as Americans is to defend the rights and liberties passed down to us.
If you do not like the idea of the People not those with badges or titles having power.. really you should look for someplace else on the planet to call home. Iran comes to mind right off the top of my head. I mean no insult and I sincerly thank you for your community service... I am just hammering home the point.
The Authorities are “Outgunned” in America.. that is as it should be..
They hold their positions at the consent of the governed.. They do not like it much especially the Sphincter Muscles in Washington. But that is the way it is and will remain..
That someone may lack the personal courage to be a Peace Officer in a Free Society is a solvable problem. As they have not been conscripted they are free to find other employment. For those that accept those risks ... good on them and we all thank and honor them for their honest service.
A civil crisis of any sort is exactly the time and place for the people of the unorganized milita to be armed.
If those with badges or those in elected or appointed positions do not like it..
Too bad.. they work for US.. not the other way around.
We are talking about Civil Rights... not Privilages..
Unalienable rights.
Now do you understand?
W
Yeah tell that to the citizens of New Orleans that were illegally disarmed, I'm sure you would be the first to lay down your arms...or probably not!
You don't mind if the "bend" the rules... aka: The Bill Of Rights, as long as they are not doing it to you!
That’s a huge pile of terrible, terrible rationalizations for an absurd action by a public official.
If law enforcement was stretched that thin, she needed to deputize some of the armed citizenry to help maintain order, if that was truly a problem.
If you actually Knew what you were talking about, you would realize that it was NOT the Police Chief that made this order...It was the Mayor, Mr.Warren that made the order...It was out of line no matter WHO did it...
WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure are a lot of half cocked statements on this subject.
First, the TV news was all about the chief. The fact that the mayor made the decision came out later.
Second, New Orleans was entirely different in that they seized weapons and even went into homes to seize them.
Third, this is about judgment, not the Constitution.
The mayor has very poor judgment but I doubt that what he did was unconstitutional.
The police have the power to close buildings if the building harbors a mad gunman.
They have the power to lock down entire university campuses and have done so many times with no legal challenge that I know of.
When a gas leak of explosive or poisonous gas occurs, they have the power to block off huge sections of cities if needed.
They not only can prevent you from moving equipment of any kind in or out, they can prevent you from going in our out.
They can, under some circumstances institute a curfew and require everyone to remain indoors.
So this is not about the Constitution. It is about a dumbass mayor.
A dumb ass who thinks 5” of snow is the same grade emergency as a race riot
Who knows? He might decide that the dark of night makes it dangerous to the cops for us to carry and everyone must leave their weapon at home after dark.
If anyone is still reading this:
I sent a pretty mean email to the chief last night and this morning got a very long and polite reply going over the points I made.
The point most interesting and germane to the comments on this thread is that when there is a state of emergency declared, the ban of weapons is an automatic part of a state of emergency, by law.
She made a reasonable point that they mentioned the ban in the public announcement only to make people aware of the fact that weapons are banned.
So the bottom line is that the mayor did nothing that mayor’s can’t do under the law. He just exhibited the bad judgment of a weenie.
Her email was so well written and in the right spirit that I have to say that she is OK.
Our town was run for years by a chief that would not speak to, reply to or take a phone call from a lowly citizen, so I appreciate her reply.
Someone needs to approach the Mayor and say, What part of shall NOT be infringed dont you understand?
I see you want to get paid too, I was thinking the same thing, but I have to work today. This also could be one of those top down directives that are never inforced.

As a “long time resident of King” your suggesting in your post the choices were:
1) Revoke civil rights during a snow event.
-OR-
2) “If she had just stayed in her office and took no action, she would most likely get criticized for that.”
=> Given the contrast you pose, may I ask if you related to the police chief?
My bets are on Police Academy VII: Mission to Moscow.
Exactly why I canceled my NRA membership and now support anyone BUT the NRA-JPFO,SAF,GOA,etc.
You believe in no particular order-people should be treated as guilty until proven innocent, the many should be punished for the POSSIBLE offenses of the few, centralized command-and-control systems, especially government centralized command-and-control take precedence over self reliance and mutual community aid,and people who know how to deal with natural disasters should be shoved aside by government agents who do not.
Count me out.
