Alcohol Restrictions, Curfew Lifted In King

Police Chief: King Remains Under State Of Emergency Until Monday

KING, N.C. -- Authorities lifted a curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday. Authorities said the state of emergency declaration would continue until Monday 9 a.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe changes. Effective Sunday afternoon, alcohol restrictions and a curfew were lifted. All other remaining restrictions would continue until Monday, said Paula May, King police chief. Other restrictions include a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises. Also on Sunday, the emergency shelter established by the American red Cross at West Stokes High School was closed. "We appreciate the support and cooperation of everyone with our efforts to keep the citizens of King safe," May said. The state of emergency was declared Friday due to severe weather.

Who IS this martinet? We have had 24” snow here and no “state of emergency” requiring draconian rules. Not even during our 30” snow on 1996. Has the “police chief” been PMSing or are her hormone levels out of whack? Or, is she simply just another rails-to-stardom-greased idiot with no personal achievements to speak of?

>Possibly under some circumstances.

Back in the civil rights riot days, Greensboro, NC, did it for one day.

I don’t remember who made the decision but I remember that cops were stopping cars inbound to the city and turning those with weapons around.

But a full fledged riot with shooting is a different matter and you can’t blame the cops if they bend the rules.<

Are you out of your mind? “you can’t blame the cops if they bend the rules.” Like Hell I can’t! I will take them to Court for bending the rules. They are hired to enforce the laws, not bend the rules or the laws!

No, I am not out of my mind.

What I meant to infer is that you can’t blame them if they bend the law to save lives in a situation where people are shooting each other.

But a snow storm is not a shoot out.

Maybe you were not around in the riots of the 1960’s.

I lived in Greensboro, NC, during that period and there were some interesting days.

I was in Akron, OH, the night they tried to burn that place down.

I visited Cleveland, OH, shortly after they tore the place up.

It is not the same as reading about it in the paper.

And as for suing the cops...BS. It is almost impossible. There are a very few successful cases, but very few.

Texas law allows the Governor, or in some cases the County Judge, to ban the sale and transportation of alcohol, firearms, and explosives, during an emergency.

That makes a lot of sense, if the emergency is rioting by drunken, gun wielding, mobs, who are systematically dynamiting power lines and water mains. If, on the other hand, the emergency is extreme cold, iced over roads, and downed power lines, I'm rather skeptical that there you could get enough people out on the street to constitute a mob if you were giving away alcohol, firearms and explosives.

This looks like a case of some half witted local official who, reading what they can do in an emergency, decided "Well, we got an emergency, so we better do it!"

The locals ought to be thankful that they weren't given a mandatory evacuation order, to get them out of the path of a (nonexistent) hurricane.

That twit (Matthews) is one nauseating, spittle spewing, limp wristed ugly bridge troll.

I well remember the race riots and the idiots trying to burn everything they could. Under no conditions do I agree that cops can or should ever make or break the law. That authority is for the Governor ONLY and I do mean ONLY. He has the legal authority to declare martial law and that is the way it should be.

Presidents declare martial law in a State WITH the Governors agreement.

Every time I hear that Mathews said he had a “tingle up my leg” ...I think, no he got it confused with the tinkle running down his leg.

I am a long time resident of King. I love this small town. I believe our Police Chief did exactly what she felt was best for this town. In the surrounding areas I have read of break-ins recently, this may have been a concern. I applaud our Chiefs action.

If she had just stayed in her office and took no action, she would most likely get criticized for that. I am here to support my Police Department.

Of course you are right.

When people are getting killed, you should write the governor a letter.

People really need to wake up!

They should have rounded up the entire city government and held them under citizen’s arrest.

You aren’t free if you won’t act to defend it.

I've met Matthews clones over the years.....they are all nauseating little twerps who imitate the small puppy pi$$ing itself with its tail tucked between its legs whenever challenged.

Exactly!

If Matthews ever showered with the guys after gym class, it was to wistfully wonder what it would be like to be genuinely Male.

It is a problem in that it is totally unreasonable.

King is on a major highway. So if you ride down that highway and stop there for fuel, you are in violation.

"Honey? I really, REALLY need to go up US52 and turn off at the King/Tobaccoville exit to get gas. Yes, TONIGHT. What? Yes, of course, I'll be carrying; I'm not in bed, am I?"

Here in Michigan we have open carry, strap it on, or sling it over the shoulder, take a walk.

We do have a program for getting a permit to carry concelled, I don't bother, we also have a constitution here in Michigan.
