Alcohol Restrictions, Curfew Lifted In King

Police Chief: King Remains Under State Of Emergency Until Monday

KING, N.C. -- Authorities lifted a curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday. Authorities said the state of emergency declaration would continue until Monday 9 a.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe changes. Effective Sunday afternoon, alcohol restrictions and a curfew were lifted. All other remaining restrictions would continue until Monday, said Paula May, King police chief. Other restrictions include a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises. Also on Sunday, the emergency shelter established by the American red Cross at West Stokes High School was closed. "We appreciate the support and cooperation of everyone with our efforts to keep the citizens of King safe," May said. The state of emergency was declared Friday due to severe weather.

Did they also “suspend” the right to free speech? How about freedom of religion? Habeus corpus? Jury trial? What is it about the Second Amendment that makes tyrants think it’s optional?

You were right the first time.

So all conceal-carry permits are revoked because of a little snow? WTF?

I just don’t think a police chief has the authority to to that.

WHat does gun sales have to do with severe weather?

Possibly under some circumstances.

Back in the civil rights riot days, Greensboro, NC, did it for one day.

I don’t remember who made the decision but I remember that cops were stopping cars inbound to the city and turning those with weapons around.

But a full fledged riot with shooting is a different matter and you can’t blame the cops if they bend the rules.

I dunno, but I’m willing to bet she’s from the Janet Reno & Manet Napolitano & Dora Schriro school of tongue exercises.

Now what? Some boys are in a snowball fight in King, NC. Where will the crime end? Chief Nowflake-in-the-cleavage has it under control.

I just sent an e-mail to NRA-ILA about this. Tinpot dictators like Ms. May have to realize that they cannot suspend the Constitution at their whim.

There are two sides to every story...this temporary measure was put into place while emergency crews cleaned up scores of downed power lines that cut power to virtually the entire city of King. With law enforcement personnel stretched thin to keep curious onlookers and non-residents out of harm’s way in the darkened town and numerous power company crews in the area working tirelessly to restore power to the town, the last thing we needed in this emergency situation was more drunks, gawkers, and potential thugs (from neighboring crime-ridden Winston-Salem) roaming the vulnerable neighborhoods in search of an easy target. Plus, more cars and people out-and-about after midnight could have meant more car accidents and people crashing into fallen trees or touching live, downed power lines, again diverting first responders who were needed in the affected areas. This was a temporary public safety measure taken in the wake of a small-scale natural disaster that left a town’s infrastructure in shambles. It is also worth noting that with temperatures dropping below 32 degrees for the third straight night, many elderly, disabled, and other shut-ins were risking hypothermia if they had to endure a third consecutive night without power/heat, so these power lines needed to be reconnected ASAP. As a member of the NRA, I hate any assault on the Second Amendment as much as the next armed citizen, but there are times when temporary public safety measures need to be taken to ensure the general welfare for all in our community.

You are correct..It was the “Mayor” that declared a state of emergency....Our goofy Governor (Bev Perdue Democrat) gave them the authority to abuse, sometime last year. We have all gotten a Good Laugh off of it..The people in positions of authority in King have let it go to their heads. They finally lifted the ban on purchasing Alcohol and the Curfew..I guess that the Town Drunks started getting the DTs...

BS.

So every time there is a power line down, we declare martial law?

There is always an excuse for mutton heads.

Do you think that King was the only town on the east coast with a power problem?

How many times in recent years have we had large areas without power?

I can remember one storm 20 years or so ago that left many in this area without power for a week.

How about Walker Town when they had the severe storms that wrecked that town?

No one banned guns or alcohol during that week.

I will bet the crime rate was actually down that night, even in Winston Salem.

Regardless, it was a Barney Fyfe moment.

“potential thugs”...All the more reason for law-abiding citizens to be able to obtain, keep, and bear the means to protect their life, liberty, property, families, and society!

Same sort of crap that happened during Katrina - and that worked out real well, didn’t it? Is this dingbat going to be able to guarantee that the local police force on the job (unlike Nagin), and the that everyone’s safety is likewise guaranteed? If not, this little act just created a special duty to do so - but I doubt she’s smart enough to realize it.
