"The reports vary from a few, several to possibly as many as 50 dead," Brian Albert from the Middlesex hospital, which was treating several of those injured in the blast, said. "They are in the process of search and rescue," Mr Albert said, adding the Middlesex was currently treating six patients and one other had been transferred to the nearby Hartford hospital.
The local CBS station WFSB reported on its website that up to 250 people were feared hurt. Scores of ambulances and several helicopters rushed to the scene of the Kleen Energy plant on the banks of the Connecticut River.
The explosion happened just before 11:30 a.m. (16:30 GMT) during tests at the plant, a 620 megawatt gas-fired power plant which was due to come online in the summer. "There are bodies everywhere," one witness said. Another witness told the paper many victims may be buried in rubble. Officer Kevin White of Middletown Police told Reuters he did not know how many people were on site at the time but there were "mass casualties."

Prayer for all who are affected by this disaster.
Drudge has a headline up.
One of the amazing things for me is how far and how fast this story spread. I’ve been watching the story on google & have seen reports for all over Europe!
We felt the blast almost 20 miles away. First thought it was a truck, then an earthquake or sonic boom. My husband went and checked outside to see if any trees came down. Had to be bad as so many people felt the explosion in so many different directions.
Gawd Damit Prayers up And I am not gonna say it
God bless everyone involved, rescuers included. Sounds horrible.
Amazing that foreign news sources have more information about what goes on in our country than our own news networks.
Maybe an disgruntled employee wanted to go home and watch the super bowl
bttt
It’s been on all the CT news sites & TV channels and saw it on CNN, MSNBC, and CNN web sites
Also saw it on the NYTimes, the WSJ and the LA Times web sites as well. I was surprised it made it to those sites so fast.
Funny, I live 20 miles away & we felt it, but a friend of mine who lives in Middletown, only, at most, 5 miles away was totally unaware anything happened
Are checking the local mosque?
It was not nuclear so there is no need to worry/s
