A local Tea Party organizer is in the early stages of challenging the high-powered Rep. Jerry Lewis for the Republican nomination to represent his district in the House of Representatives.

Even if the kind of populist sentiment that has fueled tea partyers across the United States is strong in the 41st, Schneider or any challenger to Lewis faces a tough prospect in unseating the long-time incumbent.
"I wouldn't be running if I didn't think I had a chance," Schneider said. "I think it's time to give him (Lewis) a retirement party.
Lewis spokesman Jim Specht could not be reached for comment Friday. The nation's capital reportedly was underneath an epic snowstorm.
A successful campaign, said Jack Pitney, a political science professor at Claremont McKenna College, will require the kind of money and organization that he has yet to see grow out of the Tea Party movement.
"Winning a congressional district, particularly as far- flung as this one, requires at least a degree of organization and professionalism," he said. "You can't do it off card tables."
The Tea Party movement, named after Boston revolutionaries' 1773 act of defiance against British taxes, rose to prominence in 2009 with protests against modern-day taxes and the policies of President Barack Obama and a Congress dominated by the Democratic Party.
The Tea Party movement has been praised, mocked and probably misunderstood by the American punditocracy in the months since its adherents joined the political fray.
In Schneider's take, the movement is rooted in nonpartisan outrage toward a spendthrift and power-hungry federal government.

Congressman Lewis has been in government too long...time for him to let a true conservative take over.
