WASHINGTON A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.
Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.
A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.
Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

that is, depending on how much sway Planned Parenthood has between now and then!!
Enjoy it while it lasts. ;-)
We have had a lot more moisture southward..
I need to get my pruning done soon, we have been in the 50s for a long time.. once the sun hits again.. look out..
Concho,
I beg to differ with regarding your comments. As a native of the upper midwest, our local governments have heavy duty snow removal equipment. Plus, in the mid-atlantic area, there is a concentration of population. Also, there is a diverse population of people from all over the nation and the world, some have not even seen snow before and do not know how to handle this situation. There are some real stoopid people here who have no common sense.
I don’t need to watch the TV to see the morons. I can just look at my front door and see the guys who’ve spent hours shoveling the road so that 2 cars could get back into the neighborhood.
Hey genius - you’re in the neighborhood now. Leave the cars along the curb. Walk the 50 yards home.
That’s one way to shutdown Congress.
For once Washington DC gets the snow job. How perfect!
The Idiot in Chief will host a party Sunday and is going out today politicking.
Has anyone heard algore comment that this is caused by globull warming?
Heh heh heh. God bless Texas! ;-D
Obama calls capital’s blizzard `Snowmageddon’

WASHINGTON “Snowmageddon” that’s what President Barack Obama calls the storm that’s shut down Washington.
His motorcade made it a few blocks through deserted streets so he could speak at the Democratic National Committee’s winter meeting on Saturday.
In his opening remarks, Obama thanked activists for being willing to brave the blizzard. The streets around the hotel where the meeting was held were blocked by snow and police ahead of Obama’s arrival.

“There are some real stoopid people here who have no common sense.”
I presume you infer that “here” is where you are, or the east?
Here, where we are, we are prepared, we have the equipment to handle some snow. Our towns and cities are laid out to handle the snow, our farms are designed to avoid snow problems. When the forcasts indicate snow coming, we fuel the vehicles, we chain the trucks, and we put the dozer blades on the tractors. Sometimes we use our 4 wheel drive tractor with a dozer to break drifts so that the county can get through with their graders and snow plows.
There arent any news people, no photographers, no county reimbursement for fuel or labor, and no federal bail outs. I dont find poor planning, incompetence, and overcrowding an excuse for what is about to happen.
Who knows, he may do some play by play again.
He's already ventured out once today to pump up some lefty activists.. ;-]

I am a product, or is it byproduct of a cold February night or two?
Yup, there’s a silver lining in almost everything. ;-)
Its a Banana Belt here in the Soviet State of Oregon. Yesterday it was 60 and sunny, today 50 and cloudy.
Pray for America’s Freedom
At about 9:30, I measured about 30” in an exposed area off Tamar Drive, Columbia. Part of that was probably drift, but still.......
There are 5 foot drifts over cars in my building parking lot at the wind-swept end.
My husband and I just finished shoveling our front walk in Arlington, VA. We had 19 inches in December. The snow we just shoveled is deeper and more is coming.
“Youre right!! Why in the world hasnt FEMA mobilized? Why havent the debit cards been distributed? Doesnt Obama care about people?”
I would hazard a guess that FEMA has mobilized to some degree simply to make sure of the essential functions of the Obama cheering corps...er...the government. Sadly, Obama does care about people—I’d also bet you 99% of the federal government that has been designated ‘non-essential’ is getting their full paycheck for sitting at home until this terrible, awful white stuff melts. Meanwhile, private companies will call out their employees as soon as the streets are plowed.
My father once told me that I was the result of a tube blowing out on the radio that night. Mother was not amused.
I live in the WDC area. There is about 30 inches of snow on the level here. I went outside and was shocked. No FEMA workers shoveling out my car and sidewalk! What a shock. Also, no one offered to put me up in a hotel for more than a year. This place is infested with liberals. Why aren’t they helping me...or better yet doing everything for me? I expected to see nobama out shoveling my walk. What a slacker. This is his Katrina. Waaaaaaaaaaaah!
