WASHINGTON A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.
Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.
A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.
Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

Part of my big holly bush has collapsed under the weight of snow. Can’t see from inside the house but hope it’s not in my neighbor’s driveway.
Yeah. They need to send some down to the 210 area code haha...

It is even worse in DC than here in Pittsburgh (State of Emergency, 20 inches roads impassable...). Obama is the most selfish man. There was a fender bender at the WH this am. This idjit, taking his posse to a DNC event, when the only people who should be ot are police fire and emts. What an idjit.
Norm, this is a bigger disaster than anyone can imagine:
I have two tickets to tomorrows Caps v. Penguins game at noon at Verizon Center. I am in Richmond, my son and seatmate is in Fredericksburg and I paid $115 for each seat!
No, no, no, no, no.........
I will be leaving home at 6 am and we are going to get there somehow.
I just called my military son who lives near Baltimore. Turns out he answered his cell from a mountain warfare exercise in the Rocky Mountains. It is snowing there, but he is having fun. When he was 17 in ROTC he had my husband drive him and friends to the Appalacian mountains for a weekend exercise at 8f degrees. They had no tents, just shelter halves. The first night they took their boots off and they were frozen in the morning. The second night they put the boots in the foot of the sleeping bags. A guy rolled over in the night and his boots bopped my son on the nose. The only injury of the trip. He loves this shxx.
Called a scientifically oriented friend in downtown DC. Last night around midnight they measured 11 inches. An hour ago they measured 19 inches. It is still snowing heavily. I was living in DC for a big snow in 1966. The government closed for 3 days. In my side street the six cars parked on either side of the street were completely covered and not even visible as mounds. It was a week before a garbage truck pushed through the street.
In New Jersey, in 1947 (the Big Snow of ‘47), there was 27”. The snow was up to the middle of my chest. My father dug a path down to the street. I dug caves in the side of the trench for my 15 month old brother to “live” in. We had fun.
did you see that a local news crew caught Tiny Tom Dashschle stuck in snow pushing his vehicle? it’s posted on FR. LOL!!
