WASHINGTON – A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.

Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.

A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.

Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

Panic-induced weather reporting is par for the course for MD media folks. This is the kind of weather they can usually only dream about it. It’ll keep ‘em going through the end of next week with reports of melt/refreeze, messy sidestreets, reminders to shovel in stages and dress in layers, etc. lol

We can only hope for: 1) a shot of a Dan Rather wannabe clinging to a light pole in gale force winds and 2) anguished cries of reporterettes wondering WHEN Obama will be sending in federal troops.

how about “Snowpocalypse” ?

Powerful blizzard paralyzes US east coast, two dead
AFP - Jo Biddle

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A huge blizzard dumped a blanket of thick snow over the US east coast Saturday, paralyzing the region and snapping power lines to thousands of people as hazardous roads killed at least two.

The monster storm, dubbed “Snowpocalypse” and “Snowmageddon,” stretched thousands of miles from eastern Indiana into Pennsylvania and then down through Maryland as far south as North Carolina.

With winds gusting at almost 60 miles (90 kilometers) an hour, many places were covered in more than a foot of snow by early Saturday. Even US President Barack Obama awoke to find 10 inches covering the White House grounds.

How do we know they haven’t cooked the books on their storm story to fit the GW theory? We must always ask that question anytime someone pontificates about the cause of weather now that we know they have been lying to us.

It is bright sunshine in central Texas too!! We couldn’t ask for a better weekend, even if I have drill.

His motorcade made it a few blocks through deserted streets so he could speak at the Democratic National Committee’s winter meeting on Saturday.

In his opening remarks, Obama thanked activists for being willing to brave the blizzard. The streets around the hotel where the meeting was held were blocked by snow and police ahead of Obama’s arrival.

#####

President Bush would not have clogged up the roads to do what the self-centered Zero just did. No one should be out unless they are in need of a hospital or work in a hospital. Otherwise stay off the roads!.

The silence here is eerie. I live close to an Interstate that is a dull roar of background noise, until today.

Unfortunately, I won’t be driving anywhere soon. A 70ft pine tree is lying across my car. And the snow is continuing to pile up on it.

Well, I thought I was reading you correctly.

Even tho, I am currently in the Great Plains, I have traveled extensively, and have been in the DC, Philly, NYC areas as well as every other major metro area in the US. Geographic conditions play into that somewhat, I realize.

Reading between the lines, your life experiences tell you that when you get a warning of impending problems that you proactively prepare for it. For some reason, our National Leadership seems to miss out on that simple learned life skill.

Bust some more bogies!!!

Did they have trees that would fall across power lines in the Great Plains areas?

It looks like Little House on the Prairie right outside my windows now, except trees are threatening my roof, and one has already gotten my car.

My father once told me that I was the result of a tube blowing out on the radio that night. Mother was not amused.

It’s nice to know your background, isn’t it! More to tell the grandchildren about the olden days and family history.
