WASHINGTON Shoppers jammed aisles and emptied stores of milk, bread and shovels Friday as a massive snowstorm blew into the Mid-Atlantic. Forecasters predicted a record 30 inches or more for the nation's capital, and authorities already were blaming the storm for the deaths of father-son Samaritans in Virginia.
The region's second snow storm in less than two months could be "extremely dangerous," and heavy, wet snow and strong winds threatened to knock out power, the National Weather Service said.
Flakes started falling around noon in Washington, where the federal government sent workers home early. The storm's wide swath and predictions of historic proportions for an area ill-equipped for snow had airlines canceling flights and school districts closing hours before any snow arrived.
The last time D.C. got at least 28 inches of snow was in 1922. The city has seen more than a foot only 13 times since 1870, according to the National Weather Service. The storm was expected to track through Virginia and West Virginia, across Maryland into southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Freakin’ hilarious...gotta love it!

Actually I’m about 40 minutes further north than Wexford...stange weather patterns here...sits on the line between changing weather near Erie and Pittsburgh..never know what you’re going to get.
2:00am here and there’s over a foot of snow already...more coming until afternoon Sat. still coming down hard. My guess is we’ll have 18 to 20 inches before it’s done.
Very sad and tragic - both a father and son losing their lives when they stop to help someone else. This is the part of the story that strikes me. Two lives have been cut short now, and a family is devastated.
Oh no...I just wish people would stay off roads when it gets this bad. I can’t imagine what this mother must be going thru...very sad.
We have missed the last few storms but not this one. 15 inches expected in State College and as of 3 AM it is still snowing. Maybe until noon Saturday
No you don’t.
In Central PA here, we only got about 4”.. I just got off the late shift at 5am, a normal 20 minute drive home took an hour.
15” expected in State College?? You talking about State College, PA? I don’t think so. Don’t know where you got your weather report from.
Damn and I thought it was because the Northern Hemisphere was fighting a war against the Southern Hemisphere.
I just awakened. I live in the WDC area and there is a lot of snow. Its a “disaster” I tell you. Where is FEMA? Where is my trailer? Can I live in a hotel for years at your expense? What am I going to do? The sky is falling (actually, the “sky” did fall...a lot of it). Woe is me. Where are the federal workers to shovel my walk? Can’t nobama open his stash for me? I shouldn’t have to pay my mortgage. Where the hell is my free health care? I’m going to call algore today to see if he can give me some free carbon credits to burn in my fireplace. LOL...have a wonderful, wintery day!
That is how the global cycles are caused.
What? You’re not out looting?
Sussex County, NJ checking in:
Nothing here.
The storm missed us by about 50 miles.
We might get some flurries later.
Prayers that everyone in the affected areas stays safe and keeps their electricity.
About 6” here and it’s over and done, just like they said it would be.....
ReneeLynn,
How much do you have now? Where I am in Washington County, PA, we have about 20-24 inches.

Did you check out his wife. Her clothes are two sizes too small. We got about 4 inches. Not bad! I think another one is coming at end of week?
