We Will March On Washington, D.C. In April (Second Amendment March)

Late on the evening of Day Two of the SHOT show, I was met by several members of the gun industry and asked to have a private and serious discussion on the Second Amendment March. They shared with me concerns that the march would fail, and that, in the process, I would weaken the gun rights movement. I listened with gritted teeth as they told me that the time was not right for a march of this type, and that the gun owners of our country would not follow it. They reasoned that I had less than 100 days to earn all the money needed and that I would never make it. Inside, I was furious. Outside, I remained calm and listened to everything they had to say.

You see, I've been listening to these same arguments for almost a year now. One usually expects discouragement from the enemy, but not from one's own team members. In retrospect, I don't blame them nor harbor any ill will. They're just acting the way they always have - with fear and timidness. They've been on defense so long that they no longer remember how to lead the charge.

I'm not any better or more courageous than they are. I'm afraid too. But I have one thing that they lack -- faith. And it's not a blind, senseless faith, based on thin air and wishful thinking; it's a belief in the American spirit, a belief that Americans still have the guts and the courage to stand up and fight for their own freedom. 2010 is going to be a fantastic year for American freedom. Yes, things look mighty bleak bright now, but isn't that the way it's always been throughout our history? It always seems darkest just before the dawn.

MT, did you get a chance to meet Larry Vickers at the Shot Show? Truly an American hero!

I'm confused. Wasn't the 2A march supposed to be in July or August...the one with Ted Nugent?

The next huge Tea Party March is to be April 15th. Why would some other group schedule a march so close to this one?

"George Washington saw things that others did not. He saw freedom just beyond adversity."

I liked this line in the article.

"I learned in the Marine Corps that I would rather die trying than retreat."

We all learned that brother, as Chesty Puller said at the Chosin Resevoir:

"We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things."

Semper Fi...

Good questions both. It seems to be a bad ideal to divide our resources.

I went to a 2nd amendment rally in 90's at Lincoln Memorial; great time. This was when everything was heating up for the Slickster; after Waco. There was 10-15 thousand people there.

Today, even though they keep coming after the 2nd amendment, they always will; I feel that Americans are better situated to protect our 2nd amendment. The Dems don't want any part of being associated with anything anti-gun; political liability. All the talk about international treaties doesn't actually scare me all that much. When politicals go overboard in their delusional state of mind; they figure out pretty quick that people ignore laws that are just plain immoral & wrong. Only leads to problems and the populace realizes who has the real power. My 2 cents.

Yes, why divide at this point...or is that the purpose?

I had planned on attending the 4-15 march, as well as the 2A march in the summer. I'm not staying 4 extra days to attend something that appears at this point to be an attempt split the strength of the Tea Party.

A Second Amendment march without firearms in visible abundance would be kinda weak, ya think? And since there is no nationwide license to carry, people can’t legally leave their states with their guns to converge on Washington.

(Although it would make a LOUD statement if a half-million people broke the same law at the same time!)

The Imperium and its loyal scribes managed to ignore the 9/12 march, despite the assembled multitudes, so this one is doomed without visible firearms, IMHO. Perhaps this would work better as 50 state marches, despite the logistical nightmare?

Americans did nothing after the NFA was passed. What will we do now?

Add to that the certainty that the area jails could only house a few hundred at any one time for any immediate arrests. However, I doubt that many folks would like to risk the consequences of being one of those few arrested and made examples of. I certainly wouldn't!

I'm wondering about that too. Why not have it on the 16th so that people can do both in one trip.

Perhaps the RINO wing of the Republican party is trying to weaken the tea party movement (and perhaps could be behind the "Tea Party Convention" that is being held in Nashville this weekend also). Divide and conquer...

If a half million armed people show, no one will be arrested unless they actually do something wrong.

I disagree. I think some will be arrested in order to provoke exactly the kind of knee jerk violence you imply would happen and I don't think anybody would rise to the bait. But too bad for those busted. That's why it won't come off.

Hope this is impressive.

But like the Right to Life march, mainstream media will ignore it.

I would guess it was scheduled for April 19th because April 19, 1776 was the day the Revolutionary War started.

Looks like Cheeks may have our answer!

I would guess it was scheduled for April 19th because April 19, 1776 was the day the Revolutionary War started.

But still...

Because the 2nd Amendment March was in the planning/permit stages well before the Tea Party started planning their march.
