Neo-Pagans Get Worship Circle at Air Force Academy

Witches, Druids and pagans rejoice! The Air Force Academy in Colorado is about to recognize its first Wiccan prayer circle, a Stonehenge on the Rockies that will serve as an outdoor place of worship for the academy's neo-pagans.

Wiccan cadets and officers on the Colorado Springs base have been convening for over a decade, but the school will officially dedicate a newly built circle of stones on about March 10, putting the outdoor sanctuary on an equal footing with the Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and Buddhist chapels on the base.

"When I first arrived here, Earth-centered cadets didn't have anywhere to call home," said Sgt. Robert Longcrier, the lay leader of the neo-pagan groups on base.

"Now, they meet every Monday night, they get to go on retreats, and they have a stone circle."

Academy officials had no tally of the number of Wiccan cadets at the school of 4,500, but said they had been angling to set up a proper space since the academic year began.

"That's one of the newer groups," said John Van Winkle, a spokesman for the academy. "They've had a worship circle on base for some time and we're looking to get them an official one."

The Air Force recognizes several distinct forms of neo-paganism, including Dianic Wicca, Seax Wicca, Gardnerian Wicca, shamanism and Druidism, according to Pagan groups that track the information.

Since a 2004 survey of cadets on the base revealed dozens of instances of harassment and intolerance, superintendent Michael Gould has made religious tolerance a priority.

Yet Van Winkle, the academy spokesman, said he could not confirm whether the school's superintendent or senior staff would attend the dedication ceremony.

Just extrapolating from the original comment.

And it is, isn’t it?

Wiccans have no more satantic alters than christians. The taxpayer cost of moving a few rocks around for the Wiccans is far less expensive than building chapels for the christians. Idea... lets not support any religion in the military. Let members attend religious services off post/base. That should please you....correct?

>>And soon there will be GAY wiccans in the military

Sorry, transhumanism / postgenderism is where I draw the line.

Humans only. No eunuch mutants or other abominations of nature allowed.

Humanity has been there, did that - with historically observable and predictable results:
Rom 1:25-29
25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator — who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice.
NIV
Are we there yet?

That was sort of the point of the 1st amendment - not being forced to serve, or worship, ala government religious mandate.

[In the late sixties there was a media blitz of occult subjects such as astrology, witchcraft, reincarnation etc]

Same thing happened back in the “roaring” 20’s. The obsession with Egyptian/oriental mysticism is self-evident in the stonework of cemetery crypts and headstones dating from that period.

What we have today is pretty much the same moral climate that existed leading up to 1929.

God is dead, therefore we are as gods and can make up our own rules.

Don’t Wiccans worship in the nude??

Called being "Skyclad"

But nude doesn't have to be nasty.

>>What the HE!!!???

It's not all that surprising - when the OTO antics of Jack Parsons, founder of JPL are taken into consideration.

Birds of a feather...

Then you would wake the next morning and realize that the death of Osama bin Laden would have no impact at all on international terrorism or Islamic terrorism aimed at the U.S. He will be replaced by others, some probably more lethal in scale than bin Laden could have ever dreamed of actually being. In other words, your dance would be short-lived and pointless.

You’re an idiot

Is that your best response? It's apparent you're a religious bigot. It's people like you that give christianity a bad name. I highly suggest you open your Bible (if you don't have one check one out at your local library) your simpleton mind and your stone cold heart. Your religious bigotry and hatred toward non-christians is blinding you.

I know that it wasn’t the wiccan pagan gods that have blessed this country. I pray that Americans find a sense of gratitude for all the things that God has given us. What is Thanksgiving day about anyway?

I believe that too; but you can’t lead folks into a reconciled relationship with the Creator of the Universe via the tip of a sword - or by government mandate.

Isn’t it interesting the Genesis account: “Let there be light” is congruent to the modern quantum cosmological model that postulates that, in the beginning there was nothing - and then an instant later all the energy (and Mass) in the universe was?

Pretty good guess for a bunch of sheep herders, ehh?

My observation is that Wiccans generally reject, not the notion of God - but the antics of the un-Holy Roman Empire who constructed a government mandated religious facade in His name.

At least they’re looking for Him - and that’s a start.

Only an ravoing idiot thinks "wiccan" is a religion. What's next? Build a mini Apollo Temple for those who believe in Greek mythology? Maybe the Army can supply the peyote and the adobe bathhouse for the peyote eating injuns? Or perhaps a sacrifice table for the Santeria among us? Lord knows that the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh still has a few purple clad followers grousing about the country. We have to accommodate them all, don't we?

I have only two questions to those in the Armed Forces. (1) Are they loyal to the USA? and (2) Will they fight? If both those answers are yes, I don’t care if they are Christian, atheist, Wiccan or blue-painted Druids. If they love the USA and will fight when ordered, I have no problems with them.

Maybe 100 years left. It is a slow bleed. Things do feel like they are coming very fast now. Social change just doesn’t turn on a dime. There is too much inertia. How fast, I just can’t say?

All I know for certain is that the informed and moral electorate we once had that was required to police the politicians is no longer in place, replaced by apathetic, moral relative voters voting their pocketbooks exclusively. That and we are rapidly approaching the tipping point where 50% of voters don’t pay any taxes. Then we are doomed.

It is very depressing seeing this decline. Very depressing. I wish I could be hopeful.

My single hope is that Americans do have a tendency to get up and go at the very last minute. I am just not so sure what we have left as Americans. The socialist government schools have really succeeded in brainwashing an entire couple of generations of Americans, and the huge immigrant population I once thought would save us — thinking they could most clearly see the new freedom they received here — I now thing will doom us as they try to import all of the freebies of socialism of the nations they left.

Very depressing being sold out by my fellow voters in their supreme ignorance of history, the Constitution and freedom.
