Seattle Gun Rights Examiner Dave Workman first brought us news of Bellevue Police Chief Linda Pillo testifying at a Washington State Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, supposedly as a private citizen, but conveniently in uniform and armed, to urge a ban on so-called "assault weapons." One of her reasons:
Assault weapons can also be easily converted to fully automatic machine guns.
This assertion didn't sit well with St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner Kurt Hofmann, who responded with "The 'easily converted to machine guns' myth makes a comeback." He in turn found a link to an old Southtown Star article, where a journalist tried to do just that. It's an interesting and entertaining read.
I notified WaronGuns readers and urged them to ask Chief Pillo to personally demonstrate how easy it is. After all, she offered that as expert testimony based on her "law enforcement background."
Writer Carl Bussjaeger ran with that, and shared his email to the Bellevue PD:
I challenge Chief Pillo to demonstrate the ease of such a conversion, making a video of her performing the procedure available to the public on the Internet. And since she is a supporter of SB 6396, I challenge her to do this with this SB 6396-defined assault weapon...

Well of course she could do that! With her eyes closed no doubt! We all know that cops are gunsmiths on the side and know everything about guns....oh and each and every one knows every law, so we better bow down to them! /s
Yeah, I got issues. freakin cops
Read the bill here: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2009-10/Pdf/Bills/Senate%20Bills/6396.pdf

Respond accordingly, or sit back and watch it be passed.

She should be fired immediately. Taxpayers do not pay her to lobby for the anti-gun movement. She is NOT a private citizen. If she wants to join the anti-gun lobby fine, turn in your badge and get off the taxpayer payrolls.
You know, I know it takes a little training and practice, but I’ve seen people unload a Colt SAA or a Ruger Blackhawk, etc., amazingly quickly and accurately. In fact, I’ve seen it done better than OK from the grip end ;-) I’d like to see her reaction to that.
We have a few of her ilk here in TX, but thankfully they are well outnumbered.
I have yet to see the facts get in the way of a gun grabber’s agenda. It’s a liberal thing.
Yes, and they are getting quite annoyed at being called on it. It is our job to keep injecting facts and logic into the debate. Chief Pillo made this claim, in uniform. She should have to defend it. Demand it often enough and she will make more of a fool of herself or issue a retraction.
The Progressive domination of the media is slipping. The Old media is dead... long live the new media!

I had three best friends growing up. None of the three were allowed to shoot growing up. Two because their parents were liberal and one because his dad still had dreams of Vietnam combat and he was afraid of what could happen during an episode.
One of the liberal sons is now a WA State Trooper. His first time firing a handgun was when he was required to practice to shoot for his exam. He failed. He bought an airsoft pistol to practice at home and was able to get 244/300 on his shooting test, which was just 5 points above failing.
He said he hasn’t improved his score since he never uses his gun except when he has to qualify every year. I love him, but I can’t believe that I’m supposed to entrust my life to him and his gun skills.
I grew up shooting and I continue to shoot a lot. I trust my aim much more than a cop who practices once each year.
The happy ending is that my friend with the Vietnam vet dad decided to start shooting skeet. He asked his dad to come along and now they both have a new hobby!
Holy crap that bill is ONE feature. Think the national AWB was two or more.
By that bill I think pretty much every single one of my semi-autos and 3 of my pump Remington 870 and 2 Mossberg 500’s are gonners, even the ones that can only hold 3 rounds.
Think the only shotgun I have that’s safe is my breech loading single shot 20 gauge and my Browning...but that I’d have to check again cause it’s an autoloader.
Those are just my hunting rifles and shotguns! Haven’t even gotten to the good stuff yet!
This bill has already died in committee, from what I’ve read.
It does remain that the police chief in Bellevue is an idiot. But that’s par for the course on chiefs. They are political creatures. In my experience, most cops actually on the street are very much pro-2nd-amendment.
I’ve had occasion to talk about guns with a few good cops in Bellevue, and mostly they wanted to talk about how cool my guns were.
The chief is an affirmative action hire, political hack with very little street time, and all of that in two yuppieville towns. She couldn’t police her way out of a wet paper sack. That is typical of Bellevue PD.
Like every chief I’ve ever knowm she does her master’s bidding(the political elite)in this case the political bosses of Bellevue.
She should be charged with lying to the legislature, fired, and thrown in prison.
The key is a squat rod of steel, measuring 375/100ths of an inch wide and 812/100ths of an inch tall.
That's one hell of a rod!
“...but I cant believe that Im supposed to entrust my life to him and his gun skills.”
You are not, and don’t. Trust to yours.
I was inspecting the equipment of one of my men, a 20 year veteran. He couldn’t unload his shotgun without a whole bunch of fumble farting around. Guess who went to the range the next day and fired 00buck magnum until his friggin shoulder looked like a grape lollipop. He became very familiar with all of his equipment.

I bet Sarah Palin would be a LOT faster!
I have an AR-15 type rifle with a "surplus" pistol grip that was once on a military M-16. I had no idea that I had created a "machine gun".
Are you sure of your information?
I’m not saying I ever did it nor am I saying I ever saw it done...but a Ruger 10/22 is pretty easy to convert to full auto.
