Rasmussen Daily: -4 (49A, 50D overall)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 2/1/10 | Rasmussen

Posted on 02/01/2010 6:50:29 AM PST by tatown

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 35% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. That’s the highest level of strong approval for the President in more than seven months and reflects a significant bounce following the State-of-the-Union address. Before the speech, just 27% voiced strong approval.

Thirty-nine percent (39%) now Strongly Disapprove down from 42% before the speech. Putting it all together gives Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -4. That’s the President’s best Approval Index rating in months. In fact, he’s earned a better rating on only two days in the past six months (see trends).

“As soon as the afterglow of the SOTU fades, so will the numbers.........”

This tells me that people desperately want to approve of Obama. All Obama has to do is avoid being blantantly stupid, and his numbers will soar. Over 10% unemployment, rising government spending, a divisive government, and a year spent on legislation no one wanted and it failed, (healthcare). Now Obama’s up to -4.

If Obama just gives speeches while the country goes to heck in a handbasket, he’ll be re-elected.

It all depends on the unemployment. If it is still in double digits, the democrats will tank in November.....if not.....maybe not.

If the people were stupid enough to vote for him based on a hope and change slogan and his “brilliant” speeches, this should come as no surprise. Whenever he’s in trouble he makes some kind of major speech followed up by an appearance on Leno, Oprah.... or a college basketball game. He pops up on facebook ads constantly. He’s just one big obamamercial. Not worry. He can’t keep up the charade forever. obama and the rats are going down sooner or later.

“This tells me that people desperately want to approve of Obama.”

Exactly. It’s liberal guilt. They are giving him a pass on EVERY horrible thing he is doing and has done.

The results are truly fascinating. Only one number has changed. (More in a moment.)

The overall approve-disapprove number has barely budged. The percent who strongly disapprove has barely budged.

But a significant percentage of voters who previously “approved” of Obama very suddenly “strongly approve.” The only explanation is SOTU, and the perception that he needs his base to rally around him.

It is unlikely that this will last long. What it really suggests to me is that even among those who support Obama it is very, very difficult to sustain any real enthusiasm over the longer term.

BHO touched on some Tea Party issues. Like going after the unpopular banks for not lending; going after offshoring of jobs by corporations; acknowledging that we need nuclear energy; and finally looking at offshore oil drilling. The last three issues deal with creating jobs from existing industries. Blue collar Dems and Independents like that. We will see if BHO can deliver by Sep 2010. If not, and unemployment is still at 10+ percent (U3 numbers), Dems are toast.

Tell them what they want to hear and they never question what you say...that is the reason for this bounce.

Saturday I was watching the Duke GT BB game, and his lordship appeared at the game. This is a conserted effort by his PR staff to make him more likeable. The guy is nothing but an empty suited puppet being pulled by the strings of his PR staff, nothing more.

Although Rasmussen contends that much of this bump was caused by the SOTU, I disagree. Instead imho, most of it was caused by the RINO’s inviting Obama to appear at the GOP Congressional retreat, allowing to be televised at the last moment, Obama performing charismatically before a group of weak, effete, spineless RINO’s and then the MSM spin which made out that Obama was the master statesman and good guy seeking bipartisanship and the Republicans were the obstructionists and the bad guys in the drama.

Huge strategic error by the GOP Congressional leadership.

All the great work the GOP had done to depress Obama’s numbers now apparently has gone for naught.

This proves, once again, that public education works! I’d say that about 150,000,000 people need an education in economics and history at “Hillsdale College”.

His ‘strongly disapprove’ hasn’t moved much...really just alot of ‘approve’ going to ‘strongly approve’.

All indicative of how feeble minded his supporters are.

Before SOTU, gays might only ‘approve’, after SOTU declaration on don’t ask/don’t tell, they ‘strongly approve’.

For his followers who thought he might track center, they are now very happy and ‘strongly approve’.

The ‘total approve’ and ‘total disapprove’ have not changed much.

He has energized his base, and will now try to attack the banks, fat cats, etc. to get them more lathered up...not a bad strategy, but how many times will his base allow themselves to be disappointed by him?

It's the one thing they're good at.
