SALT LAKE CITY The next Republican presidential nominee could be named in Utah.
After four months of study, the GOP has selected Salt Lake City as one of four finalists for the 2012 Republican National Convention, an event that could bring 30,000 people to the state for several days.
The other finalists will be announced early next week, and the winner will be selected in late summer after GOP officials visit each city.
If Salt Lake City gets the bid, the 2012 event would be the first GOP convention held in the Intermountain West. Denver hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

Myth has bought a great deal of influence and will keep doing so. But I still don’t see how the convo being held in state where he has a lot of support or not will make a difference vis a vis his chances at the nomination. Or help him win what he needs, votes in the GOP primaries.
I guess it’s better to avoid the issue and choose a different city. (other finalists not revealed yet). If it makes more likely that RINO ex-Governor, I’m talking about Huntsman Jr. ;) gets a speaking slot that’s a good a reason to avoid it. But I don’t think it will be a big deal if it is Salt Lake.
Utah is the most Republican state so you could say they deserve the economic benefit. In the same vein it may be better not to have the convo in a GOP stronghold area (thought Salt Lake City itself is rat) for image reasons. The rats having it in Boston in 2004 wasn’t good PR for them. On the flip side GOP in NYC in 2004 was helpful and the rats in Denver in 2008 I think was also.
Oh boy!
I just LOVE them!
Getting the TRUTH out about MORMONism is my calling!
Whadya wanna know??
HuH?
An apology for WHAT?
But close enough to address the Whitehorse!
Now who's being judgemental?
If Slick Willard is the nominee, I don’t think he would want SLC to be the convention site. Having it in Utah only reminds people that Romney is the Mormon candidate. Also given SLC’s dry laws, there won’t a lot of places for the delegates to wine and dine.
Myht continues to buy influence. Slick Willard is going attend a fundraiser for Thune later this month.
