BRITAINs biggest drugs company, Glaxo Smith Kline, is to axe up to 4,000 more jobs as part of its plans to restructure its workforce and focus increasingly on emerging markets.
The bulk of the cuts will be in America and Europe, and are part of the companys efforts to shift resources away from low-growth territories into parts of the world with greater scope to expand sales.
Glaxo, which has been headed for nearly two years by chief executive Andrew Witty, employs 99,000 staff across the world and is expected to reveal plans for select cutbacks alongside its annual results this Thursday. This will be combined with a drive to make its research and development arm more cost-efficient.

Is this the same company that withdrew the only product that completely cured my asthma in order to save the ozone layer?

There were several companies that had to with draw the albuterol inhalers, and replace them with xopenex HFA inhalers, due to the pressure from the environmentalists..The new replacement do not work as good.. I stumbled across a never used albuterol I had in my dresser, and the difference in the old ozone layer destroying one was like night and day.for use as a rescue inhaler.

Not good news here in North Carolina—GSK is one of the biggest employers here in Durham, they have consolidated a lot of their US/Canada operations here (from downtown Philadelphia). I’m an IT contractor out there, so I have a bit of a personal stake in this, of course.

Quite possibly. I can totally empathize.
The EPA and FDA mandated the removal of the medical exception for CFC propellants from asthma inhalers in order to 'save' the ozone hole. Life hasn't been the same since.
