The Washington Post ^ | 1/30/10 | Carol D. Leonnig

Posted on 01/30/2010 7:11:31 PM PST by steve-b

The conservative activist accused this week in a plot to tamper with telephones in the office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) admitted to the scheme Friday....

Federal prosecutors allege that James O'Keefe helped carry out a plot in which two friends impersonated telephone repairmen to get access to Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans. O'Keefe, 25, waited inside the office and used his cellphone to record his two colleagues saying that the senator's phone was not receiving calls, according to charges unsealed Tuesday....

If convicted, O'Keefe could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. Under a judge's order, he is required to reside with his parents in New Jersey pending future court hearings.

"Harsh"

IMO, His Honor's purpose is to set up O'keefe for leftist media ridicule.

I'm getting awfully sick of these lies from these high-paid liars. I thought that the Washington Post was marginally better than the NY Times, but evidently not.

Exactly. The Post is full of libs, but we still expect them to have higher standards than MSNBC when it comes to getting the basic facts right.

Why wasn’t the Senator receiving calls from her constituents?

Oh nevermind, I forgot, this is about smearing O Keefe, not about The senator who is supposed to be working for the PEOPLE.

" think all that happened was that her office managers pulled a wire that triggered a busy signal for inbound calls "

That in itself would be tampering with phone lines on Federal Property...by the staff.

Your take on it sounds more reasonable than the WaPo's "view" of it, but then again, I don't suppose you're a paid propaganda mouthpiece for the administration of embattled President Obama, and well, WaPo doesn't seem to be quite so ... objective, shall we say.

Where are you getting they were tapping the phones? All the article said is that they were imitating phone repair people to see if they were working? Please don’t repeat a rumor unless you have proof it’s true.

The Washington Post simply fails to state that it is only the media which is accusing him of this! :)

That passive voice - perfect for denying responsibility:

"Mistakes were made."

The statement by the WP is actionable libel

This article is spin of the worst sort. It could have been written by Howard Dean.

But I agree that it does perhaps go beyond spin into libel.

He should have limited himself to standing outside election polling places wearing a uniform and brandishing a club spouting racist phrases...that form of free intimidation...err...speech is applauded by the justice department.
