The United States has suspended its medical evacuations of critically injured Haitian earthquake victims until a dispute over who will pay for their care is settled, military officials said Friday.
The military flights, usually C-130s carrying Haitians with spinal cord injuries, burns and other serious wounds, ended on Wednesday after Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida formally asked the federal government to shoulder some of the cost of the care.
Hospitals in Florida have treated more than 500 earthquake victims so far, the military said, including an infant who was pulled out of the rubble with a fractured skull and ribs. Other states have taken patients, too, and those flights have been suspended as well, the officials said.
The Haitian disaster is a political minefield. It might be his undoing...at least mentally...he appears to be on a slope of a mental breakdown
I don’t blame Christ or anyone else for not wanting to shoulder the whole burden of the health care.
Maybe Charlie listened this time. We have Floridians losing their homes, right now. There are limits to what we can do.
Just an odd question....when have we ever gotten into the airlift business after earthquakes of bringing lots of folks to the US? We didn’t do it in the Mexico City episode....and I can think of forty more earthquakes where we didn’t do it. Something here is not making sense. If you go forty miles outside of the affected area....pretty much everything is ok and standing. I think I’d just sit up portable hospital tents and take care of folks right there.
Why does not the Hatian government pay for the care of its own people? The place is not pennyless.
So we’re giving from one pocket while they reach into the other? People are donating $10 at a time on their phones. They expect that money will pay for these costs.

In the meanwhile, we are being accused (by a Haitian official) of stealing children from Haiti for slavery and the harvesting of organs.

UNICEF is also reporting that children are being taken from hospitals by traffickers.
I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't the UNICEF people taking the children as sex slaves like they did in Africa. These are the last ones you want helping the children.
Looks like they need more democrats! Always remember that communism breeds in hard times. It looks like someone is creating hard times, but I can’t figure out why some “republican leaders” are playing along.
One item that received very little attention back during the 2000 presidential election was an incident in which a bunch of Haitian refugees took a boat to Florida and were turned away at the coast by the U.S. Coast Guard. The U.S. government took a lot of heat for that, and I suspected at the time that the Clinton Administration wanted to get those people out of the public eye as quickly as possible — because the sight of poverty-stricken black Haitians washing up on the beach with their hands held out for public assistance would have cost Al Gore a lot of votes among working-class Floridians.
After these 500 are treated and discharged.....where do they go? Do we keep them or send them home to Haiti?
I thought the suspension was because of the need to be ready for mass casualties from a Black Sunday scenario in Miami. that’s what the Orlando news was reporting over the last few days.

Let France pay. Haiti is in their cultural hemisphere and they are socialists anyway. This is one way to prove that the US is not an Imperialist Power and has no long term interest in Haiti like France accused the US just two weeks ago.
Over that past few days Orlando tv was talking about making room in the Miami area hospitals in case of a mass casualties event tied in with the Superbowl.
