Hundreds brave cold to hear from Scott Brown

CHICOPEE (MA) -- He's still got it. The Senate election may be long over, but Scott Brown's popularity among the people of Massachusetts shows no sign of ebbing from its campaign levels.

More than 700 supporters braved the bitter cold today to see Brown hold court at the Hu Ke Lau restaurant here, the first in a series of "Citizens Open Houses" he is holding around the state over the next few days.

They thrusted napkins, Keno cards, and political cartoons at him to sign, tried to shake his hand amid the crush, and snapped cellphone photos from as close as they could get.

Brown, the once little-known state lawmaker from Wrentham, took the stage after being introduced by comedian Steve Sweeney, who said,

"The only guy who ever thought he could do it was Scott Brown himself." Brown spoke briefly, saying he was trying to remain grounded amid his sudden stardom.

"I want to just say from the bottom of my heart and my family's hearts, thank you for the outpouring of support," he said, adding that he felt the hyper-partisan atmosphere in Washington was already changing as a result of his election.

Afterward, Brown started to work the crowd, as people climbed over booths to get closer. He asked for patience and said he would shake every hand. Women gave catcalls.

thanks, STARWISE, I look at his face and see something rising in the US, what a dreadful shame Palin has committed herself to supporting McCain. What a waste. Scott-Brown is the genuine article, he’s what zero tried to present himself as...and failed, miserably.

Palin and Scott Brown would have made a perfect team IMO.
He’s going straight to the top, and he won’t need hundreds of millions of foreign, or funny money to get there.

Feb. 11 for Brown to be seated.

Actually the dems still have 60 votes. They are saying it’s the republicans’ fault they can get their health care signed.

They have the votes, let’s see them vote.

I hear ya. I like what I’ve seen of Scott so far. I’m still trying to keep an even keel as he reveals himself. We’ll see how it goes.

His objection to this current health care plan was critical for me right now, but I am curious to see what path he takes in Washington, D.C.

I am somewhat curious if the Boston Globe knows something we don’t.

MA law said Kirk had no power to do anything after the vote last week. Kirk should no longer even be in DC.

MA is causing the delay. The letter of the law...

Brown’s attorney said that congress would waive the requirements but will not.

No surprise there.

Scott Brown’s election has somewhat elevated my opinion of Massachusetts. However, the innocent Gerald Amirault is still wearing an ankle monitor due in part to the efforts of the odious Attorney General Martha Coakley. A civilized state would long ago have publicly apologized to Amirault and his family, and generously compensated them for their ordeal at the hands of Massachusetts witch hunters.

No doubt about it. He’s a star.

Good thing the man is well grounded, because the attention he’s receiving is overwhelming.

MA Freepers! Please start calling Scott Brown's office and ask him why Kirk is voting in the Senate when Scott should be the one voting for the citizens of MA!
