TV host's 'black Obama' praise backfires, stirs row

Five little words — "I forgot he was black" — have exposed a contradiction in the idea of a post-racial nation.

The comment came from MSNBC host Chris Matthews after President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech on Wednesday. "He is post-racial, by all appearances," the liberal host said on the air.

"I forgot he was black tonight for an hour. You know, he's gone a long way to become a leader of this country, and past so much history, in just a year or two. I mean, it's something we don't even think about."

Matthews meant it as praise, but it caused a rapid furor, with many calling the quote a troubling sign that blackness is viewed as a handicap that still needs to be overcome. But his comments instantly exploded online, especially on Twitter. Ninety minutes later, he clarified his comments on the air.

Fire the bastard.

That's all you'd being hearing if it were a FOX commentator who said it.

Agreed. Racist even to the most casual observer. How stupid does he think his audience is?

Gregory also commented on the GOP response having token ethnics as a backdrop. Turns out each individual was a VA cabinet member.

NBC is a racist and bigoted network.

The most accurate portrayal of a racist on television is Michael Scott from The Office. It is the most accurate because Michael Scott has no idea that he holds some very racist views.

The was Chris Matthew's "Michael Scott moment".

A racist comment: “I forgot he was black” = “I forgot because most black folk eat chitlins, finger pop, jive, hip-hop around, eat Popeye’s chicken, curse, shoot hoops, talk funny, etc. He didn’t do any of that, so I forgot he was black.”

This is racial stereotyping.

What else did he mean?

This is exactly what G.W. Bush was talking about when he used the phrase, “the soft bigotry of low expectations.” I suspect Barry Obromide has exploited this attitude his whole life rising to levels he’d never hope to aspire to if he was a “typical white person.”

Matthews only meant that Obama is a credit to his race, as opposed to those other colored people ... you know.

“I forgot he was black tonight for an hour”

What does he think about Obama the rest of the time? Does he think he is just a black man the rest of the time?

One of the big lies that Liberals delude themselves with is that they are so colorblind that they do not even notice the ethnicity of someone they are talking to. I have been married to a Black woman for almost 30 years. I am not blind or stupid. I know what color anyone I am talking to is. The question should be, does it matter?

People like me are considered racist not because we see color, but because we do not make allowances for it. My set of standards is the same for everyone. If by some chance a certain culture fails to meet them, it would be racist (in my view) to make exceptions based only on race.

In America today holding people of every ethnicity to the same high standards = racism. A world turned on heads head.
