McCain Primary Challenger Hayworth: Obama 'Should Come Forward' With His Birth Certificate (VIDEO)

Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ), who is challenging Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the Republican primary this year, appeared on Hardball this evening, and stood by his previous statements in favor of the birther movement.

Matthews asked Hayworth: "Are you as far right as the birthers?" Are you one of those who believes that the president should have to prove that he's a citizen of the United States, and not an illegal immigrant? Are you that far right?"

"Well, gosh, we all had to bring our birth certificate's to show we were who we said we were, and we were the age we said we were, to play football in youth sports," Hayworth responded matter of factly. "Shouldn't we know exactly that anyone who wants to run for public office is a natural born citizen of the United States, and is who they say they are?"

Matthews referred back to some of Hayworth's past statements. "I'm reading your letter that says the president should go back and get his birth certificate from the governor of Hawaii," said Matthews, who then added: "I'm just asking, do you stand by this letter?"

"Yeah, sure," Hayworth responded.

"Should the governor of Hawaii produce evidence that the president is one of us, an American?" Matthews asked. "Do you think that's a worthy pastime for the governor of Hawaii right now?"

"No, I -- look. I'm just saying the president should come forward with the information, that's all," said Hayworth. "Why should we depend on the governor of Hawaii?"

Hayworth let Matthews get away with a few things. Matthews is using the recently leaked playbook of Democrats to challenge GOP candidates on the issue, he should have called him out of that. Matthews asked him if he was so far right that he agreed with "birthers". Hayworth should have reminded him that Hillary supporters brought the issue up in the Democrat primary. Hayworth should have corrected him to say that Obama is a US citizen, that's not in doubt. Hayworth also should have asked Matthews what government agency or law is responsibility for verifying natural born status and what possible reason could there be to NOT release the original long birth certificate which doesn't require the Governor of Hawaii to do anything.

For the sake of argument, Hayworth could assume that Obama is a natural born US citizen. Why not release the birth certificate then? Are Presidential historians going to be blocked from his records, esp something as benign as an original birth certificate? How much money has been spent to block its release when $10 would suffice? Hayworth should have put these questions to Matthews.

BTW, my family knows the Governor, my sister worked for the previous Governor and was born in Hawaii. I called and got the Department of Vital Records to admit that they can and do issue long form birth certificates. In my case, I said it was for genealogy reasons. The law allows for citizens to obtain a certified copy of any or all of the contents of a birth record.

Let's entertain the idea that he does look in here. Do you think after he, or an aide, browsed thru your post history that he would actually want to have any contact with you?

On the plus side, at least you wouldn't have to shy away from asking Hayworth about the birth cert., as you do with Hunter.

My theory is that as well, and done via the 1957 law that was in place in 1961 that allowed foreign born baby's to be eligible to apply for a HI birth certificate.

A divorce court in 1964 Hawaii thinks they were legally married. Untill discovry proofs the court record incorrect, the state of HI thought it was a legal marriage.

Hayworth is gong to set McCain off with this Obama COLB issue. McCain refused to raise it as he should of in the presidential campaign, showing all that Obama's acendency is McCain's fault.

Mark Levin is 100% behind JD, and he issued a warning to McCain: " Send your thugs after me like you did JD, and I guarantee you I will hurt you , big time. Looks like Chris Matthews is very tired in that interview and it seems he is not convinced of his argument, he does look empty, doesn't he ?
