Asian Carp Summit Could Be Held in Early February
ABC News ^ | 21 Jan 2010 | Kathy Banks Hoffmann

The White House said Wednesday it wants to hold a meeting in early February with Great Lakes governors concerned about Asian carp invading the lakes.

The Democratic governors of Michigan and Wisconsin requested the summit Tuesday after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Michigan's request for a preliminary injunction to temporarily shut the shipping locks near Chicago and work out a way to stop the carp.

This is yesterday's, but I didn't see it posted. I see our peerless leader is jumping into the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal to solve another problem.

I’m glad Tuesday’s election in Mass. shocked them back to reality and that they’re finally focusing their attention on the important issues.

No SEIU members will be there as they work for scale.

I believe he actually put his resolve to combat invasive species in writing, twice. Lets see, his Chicago boys will lose 33 million in economic activity by closing the locks. The great lakes states and Canada will lose 7.81 billion in fisheries losses. The solution of leaving the Chicago locks open makes so much sense to me now. What a douche.

Demonrats are always carping about something. Why don’t they offer amnesty to these fish? They’re bottom feeders, like Demonrats, and they’re eating the junk food American fish won’t touch.

These are nasty pests, but I'll bet if you let citizen outdoors man handle the problem, they could do it cheaper and quicker.

Just use the Government to keep PETA and other radicals out of the way.

Ship the dead carp to Haiti..Gefilte fish for everybody.

I still say the way to solve this is to place a bounty on the carp. This would put fishermen back to work and vastly reduce the population of the carp.

I make the same comment anytime an invasive species issue comes up. How many people who like to fish would love to actually be paid to catch this carp? Remember the Bugs Bunny episode where he is insulted a rabbit only gets a cheap bounty compared to other animals.

In all seriousness, this is a pretty important issue. Asian carp is an invasive fish that destroys the habitat of other fish. Not only do lots of people around the great lakes depend on fishing for their food and livelihood, the economies of the great lakes states, particularly Michigan, are dependant on sport fisherman. Once the asian carp get someplace, you can't get rid of them.

Thank cod these people have quit floundering around and have hopped of their perches. The outlook is bleak, and it’s no fluke that the Great Lakes are getting filled to the bream with these carp. Holy mackerel, this crappie situation makes me eel. Just for the halibut, maybe the officials could skate on down the pike and draw up plans to eradicate these suckers. With a ray of hope like that, my sole could rest easy.

Just make the carp show their birth certificates to prove they’re not an invasive species.
